Coffee supply in Russia increased by almost 80% between 2009 and 2013
Russian business consulting website reported on May 5 that according to the data of Russian coffee market analysis survey launched by esStat company, coffee supply on the Russian market increased by nearly 80% between 2009 and 2013, from 7.01 tons in 2009 to 12.55 tons in 2014. Coffee supply on the market has been increasing throughout the study period, with the largest increase in 2012, up 25% from the previous year. The increase in supply also contributed to a significant increase in Russian domestic production. In 2012, Russian coffee producers produced 83.6% more finished coffee than in 2011.
The largest contribution to the total coffee supply on the Russian market is made by imported products. In 2009-2013, imported coffee accounted for an average of 56.7% of total market supply. It should be noted that Russia does not produce coffee. Russian producers can only process products. Imported coffee is divided into "fried" and "not fried" two kinds. The first coffee is packaged and then enters the final consumer market. The second type of unroasted coffee requires additional processing-roasting. Between 2009 and 2013, the share of imported coffee was 47.5 per cent and 52.5 per cent respectively.
According to analysts, the supply of finished products to the Russian coffee market will decline, while the supply of raw materials for industrial processing will increase. This trend is related to the development of roasting technology in Russian coffee producers
