All kinds of coffee beans have different tastes, but they are almost the same size, but the elephant bean is different, it is three times or more than other coffee beans. The taxonomic name of elephant bean is Maragogipe (also known as Maragogype), which comes from Malagogippe County, Bahia State, Brazil. The taxonomic status of elephant beans, a hybrid variety of Arabica coffee, was established for the first time in the county in 1870. France used to be the main market for elephant beans, while in Germany before World War I, elephant beans had a high status and were the only kind of coffee drunk by the royal family.
At present, the main producing areas of elephant beans are Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador, Brazil and Zaire. The best elephant beans grow in Mexico and Guatemala. Overall, the taste of elephant beans is more balanced, round and soft texture, moderate aroma and relatively elegant mellow, so that it is highly rated in the industry.
