Lujiangba Arabica Coffee: Large Output Lack of Famous Brands

Due to the superior natural geographical and climatic conditions, Yunnan small-grain coffee is favored by foreign businessmen for its excellent quality, and the export volume accounts for more than 50% of the country's coffee exports, ranking first in the country. But for a long time, 90% of the exports are low-priced raw coffee beans and lack of national well-known brands. In early April, when a reporter from the 21st Century Economic report visited Lujiangba, Baoshan City, Yunnan Province, the person in charge of the management committee of Gaoligong Mountain tourist Resort told the reporter that as the main producing area of small grain coffee in Yunnan Province, Lujiangba coffee is making great efforts to develop high-quality specialty coffee, cultivate leading enterprises and build a national brand.
On April 2, the temperature in Lujiangba rebounded to more than 20 degrees after rain, and this year's coffee bean picking has just finished. In Xinzhai Village, the largest coffee village in the country, since coffee was planted in the 1980s, the area of coffee in the village has reached more than 12000 mu, accounting for 95% of the total arable land in the village. According to the management committee of Gaoligong Mountain tourist Resort, at present, the village has put into production more than 9000 mu of coffee, with an annual output value of 1800 tons of coffee beans and an annual output value of 25.2 million yuan, mainly planting 7963, Katim, tin pickup and other varieties. The small-grain coffee in the whole resort is still mainly planted and roughed, and 59 professional coffee cooperatives have been developed, including 21 rough processing and 3 finishing, and the rough processed products are mainly exported to Europe, the Middle East, Singapore, Japan, South Korea and other countries, as well as Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Hainan and other domestic markets.
Baoshan City, which owns the "Lujiang Dam" in the Nujiang valley, has always been famous for its small grains of coffee. Under the careful cultivation of local farmers and technicians, Lujiangba has created the experience of high quality and high yield of small-grain coffee, accounting for about 70% of Yunnan's total output. Since 1980, the "descendants" of Lujiangba small-grain coffee have spread all over the country, and Lujiangba has become one of the largest improved coffee seed bases in China. After 30 years of development, the coffee industry in Yunnan Province has basically formed advantageous producing areas, and the degree of industrial concentration has increased significantly. In 2015, the coffee planting area of the province reached 1.77 million mu and the output reached 130000 tons. The advantage of industrial scale gradually appeared, and the position of the first place in China in area and output was unshakable.
However, due to the export of raw beans in the form of primary processed products, only the completion of peeling, degumming and other processes, coupled with the lack of an influential brand, Baoshan Lujiangba small-grain coffee can not have the pricing power. From the United Nations Development Program assistance project in Yunnan and the participation of specialized coffee production groups such as Nestl é and Maxwell, coffee prices have risen, with coffee beans reaching as high as 30 yuan per kilogram, to coffee prices falling to a low point due to the oversupply in the international market, with coffee beans falling to 7 yuan per kilogram. Baoshan small Grain Coffee, the earliest product in line with the international market, has experienced a roller coaster.
"Lujiangba coffee should adjust its structure and vigorously develop small-grain coffee with high-quality characteristics. On April 2, a person in charge of the management committee of the Gaoligong Mountain tourist Resort told the 21st Century Economic report that at present, a rich variety of characteristic products such as Kopi Luwak, round bean coffee and hanging ear coffee have appeared in Lujiangba, which has improved the initial processing level of coffee and obtained a larger market and profit space. At present, eight provincial leading enterprises have emerged in Baoshan City, including Yunfu, Hemei, Gaolaozhuang, Yatong, Xinzhai, Baihushan, Xincheng and Beaton, and 13 coffee enterprises involved in foreign trade exports. The sales mode of deep processing products is also constantly diversified, such as online, offline and physical stores, orders and so on.
At the final of the second Yunnan Coffee Cup China Brewing Competition and the opening ceremony of Baoshan Coffee Culture Festival at the end of last year, Huang Xiao, member of the standing Committee of the Baoshan Municipal CPC Committee and vice mayor of Baoshan Coffee, said that during the 13th five-year Plan period, Baoshan will firmly seize the great opportunity that "China's coffee consumption will usher in a blowout era" and give full play to the advantages of Baoshan small-grain coffee germplasm resources and quality competition under the guidance of "agricultural scale". Focus on consolidating and upgrading the existing area of the best suitable area of Gaoligong Mountain tourist Resort Management Committee, Longyang District and Longling County. By 2020, the total planting area of the city's high-quality curry garden will reach 300000 mu and the total output will reach 50, 000 tons, of which boutique coffee accounts for about 40% of the total output, and the output value will double that at the end of the 12th five-year Plan, reaching 2 billion yuan. We will comprehensively enhance the international competitiveness and market share of Baoshan small-grain coffee.
