In recent years, cafes have sprung up in major cities in the mainland, and drinking coffee has become a new consumption fashion for young people. However, when and where did the earliest coffee cultivation in the mainland begin? Opinions have been varied for a long time, until in recent years, there is finally an answer: a small mountain village ─ Binchuan County, Dali, Yunnan Province, whose name means "winding mountain road", has gradually come into people's view. Zhu Kula is not big, only 83 households with a population of more than 370. Standing on the high slope at the entrance of the village, the houses with yellow walls and green tiles are scattered on the gentle slope of the mountain behind the face of the river, while the archway in front of the village is surrounded by woods, lush and leafy, and the archway erected at the entrance of the village shows that this is the Zhukulagu coffee forest. Walking into the ancient coffee forest, we can see that each coffee tree has been listed for protection, and the different responsible people are the villagers. "every household in our village has its own coffee tree." Villager Yang Fucheng told reporters.

Every coffee tree is listed for protection.
In 1904, Tian Deneng, a French Catholic missionary, built a church and established a church primary school in Zhukula to engage in missionary activities. Tian Deneng, who loves coffee, planted a coffee seedling from Meishu in central Vietnam outside the back wall of Jukula church. Since then, the first coffee tree has spawned a coffee forest, and there are 1134 coffee trees on 13 mu, including 24 ancient coffee trees over a century old.
The missionary activities of Catholicism in Zhukula did not continue, but the villagers formed the habit of drinking coffee. Although Yang Fucheng is only 36 years old, he has been drinking coffee for 30 years. He told reporters that drinking coffee for men, women and children in Zhukula is only a common thing, not about taste or elegance. Whenever a visitor comes, serving a cup of strong coffee is also a unique way of treating Zhukula guests. Zhu Kula also uses earthen methods to make coffee: pestle and mortar pestle and mortar, dustpan to dry, rolling and shelling, iron pot roasting, stone grinding into powder, and clay pot boiling.
In 2006, Yang Tiwu, a member of the village staff, was sent to Zhukula to help develop the local industry, and then led the villagers to expand coffee cultivation. However, what Yang Tiwu did not expect is that coffee not only has almost stringent requirements on the living environment, but also faces many difficulties in raising seedlings, and many experiments are still unsuccessful.
Take the lead in growing coffee, gratified and proud.
Until 2012, Yang Tiwu and other village staff led Zhu Kula villagers to develop coffee cultivation to more than 260 mu, with an annual income of more than 4 million yuan. After the hardships, Yang Tiwu was gratified and proud.
