Recently, the three-day Fifth China International Coffee Exhibition came to an end at the China International Exhibition Center in Beijing. The reporter learned from the exhibition site that China's coffee consumption market has great potential and is mainly concentrated in the north, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and second-tier provincial capitals, but the coffee industry still lacks unified standards and professionalism, which restricts the development of China's coffee industry to a certain extent.

Huang Jincai, South China manager of Jin Kuiding (Tianjin) Trading Co., Ltd., said in an interview with the International Business Daily that China's coffee consumption is doubling every year. Huang Jincai believes that China's annual per capita coffee consumption is less than 20 cups. On the one hand, China has a large population, on the other hand, coffee culture has really sprung up in China in recent years. A few years ago, the concept of coffee was three in one instant coffee. With the closer cultural exchanges between China and the West and the increasing acceptance of new things among young people, consumers' awareness of coffee culture is increasing. Their understanding of drinking coffee gradually changes to whether they really want to drink coffee or plain coffee. Cafes provide a platform for consumers who are eager to improve their quality of life.

Fu Weifeng, coffee service ambassador of Beijing Nestle Nesso Coffee Co., Ltd., said that three years ago, domestic per capita annual coffee consumption was only about 5 cups. China has a large population, and the coffee market is mainly concentrated in the north, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and second-tier provincial capitals, while consumers in rural areas still drink tea. Although the base of coffee consumption market in China is relatively low, it is growing every year. It is reported that Nespezo is a coffee solution provider, which displayed a variety of coffee machines and coffee capsules of various flavors at the exhibition site.

According to the "Investment Analysis and Prospect Forecast report of China Coffee Industry from 2017 to 2021" released by CIC consultants, although China's coffee consumption is still in the doldrums in terms of absolute quantity, China's coffee consumption market has great potential. At present, the scale of the global coffee consumption market is about 12 trillion yuan. The United States is the largest coffee consumption market in the world, with an annual consumption of about 3 trillion yuan, while the coffee consumption market in China is about 70 billion yuan. However, in terms of growth rate, China's coffee consumption is growing at an annual rate of about 15%, much higher than the 2% growth rate of the global market. In terms of per capita consumption, the per capita annual coffee consumption in China is only 0.03 kg, which is far lower than 5.6 kg in the European Union, 4.2 kg in the United States and 1.25 kg in the world. At present, the average Chinese consumes only 4 cups of coffee per year, while Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and other big cities consume an average of 20 cups per person per year.

According to the data released by Yunnan Coffee Industry Association, the per capita consumption of coffee in China is small, but the potential is great. In terms of absolute quantity, the total coffee consumption in China is far lower than that in western countries, but from the perspective of development, China may become the most potential coffee consumption country in the world. It is conservatively estimated that if the per capita consumption of coffee is 1 cup per day in 2020, the size of the coffee market alone will reach 50 billion US dollars per year, and the whole industry chain will produce a market of hundreds of billions of US dollars.

The overall development potential of China's coffee market is huge, but industry insiders say that at present, China's coffee industry still lacks a unified standard. the low degree of industrialization of coffee shops, heavy assets and relatively poor profitability have restricted the development of China's coffee industry to a certain extent.
