Arabica coffee beans were planted in Yunnan Province. The earliest varieties were introduced in Zhukula District, Pingchuan Town, Binchuan County, Dali Prefecture, Yunnan Province in 1892. Arabica Bourbon and Arabica Tiepika were introduced. After that, Kenya Katimo was introduced in 1991.(Arabica and Robusta grafted species), belongs to Arabica small variety beans, because the earliest bourbon and tin khaki beans belong to small particle coffee beans, commonly known as small seeds, plus Yunnan production, so later generations will Yunnan coffee beans, collectively known as Yunnan small coffee. That is to say, there are three coffee varieties in Yunnan at present: Bourbon, Tiepika and Kadimo (variety). The main producing areas are Lincang, Baoshan, Simao, Xishuangbanna and Dehong Prefecture.

It is said that more than 100 years ago, French missionaries planted the first coffee tree in China in Zhukula Village, Yunnan Province. Today, Yunnan contributes about 95% of China's coffee production. Pu 'er is an important coffee producing town in Yunnan Province.

Coffee growth is like Yunnan's slow life, hurry can not come. It takes about 4 years from sowing to sprouting attractive berries.

Yunnan coffee is mainly exported as raw materials, with an export volume of about 15,000 tons in 2006. More than 60% of the raw materials are purchased by Nestle and Max every year, and Starbucks and Amway have also joined the ranks of acquisitions in recent years.

Due to the lack of deep processing and marketing, Yunnan coffee has a low reputation and is locked in the mountains. It is believed that with the further development of Yunnan coffee industry, the rising demand of domestic coffee market and the efforts of governments and enterprises, Yunnan coffee will surely usher in a new development period.
