Starbucks reached an acquisition agreement with its long-term joint venture partner to acquire the remaining 50% stake in Starbucks East China joint venture (Shanghai Unified Starbucks Coffee Co., Ltd.) for $1.3 billion in cash. After the acquisition, Starbucks will realize direct management of all stores in mainland China.

Starbucks did not own 1300 stores in Shanghai, Jiangsu and Zhejiang before the deal, the BBC reported on July 28.

Starbucks has full ownership of 1500 other stores in China, the fastest-growing market outside the United States. The coffee giant said it was its biggest acquisition ever.

The announcement comes as Starbucks announced that net profit fell 8.3 percent in the three months to July. The company also announced plans to close 379 Teavana tea shops by the middle of next year because of their "persistent underperformance."

Starbucks acquired the tea brand in 2012 for $620 million and plans to continue selling the product in its main Starbucks stores. It's the latest shake-up by new ceo kevin johnson since taking over from his predecessor howard schultz in december.

Johnson described the Chinese acquisition as part of the company's "long-term game" to cool growth in the U.S. market.

The world's largest coffee chain is suffering from reduced foot traffic in U.S. shopping malls and streets as more consumers choose to shop online and in convenience stores and express delivery, the report said.

US same-store sales rose 5 per cent last quarter, while Chinese same-store sales rose 7 per cent compared with the previous quarter.

Starbucks already has stores in 130 Chinese cities and hopes to expand its 2800 stores to 5000 by 2021. (Compile/Wang Ximeng)

According to reports, the second phase of Starbucks Youth Leadership Program will adopt a new advanced training method of "learning first and learning later". College students will first participate in research with partners from local public welfare organizations, pay close attention to more realistic social issues, and complete the transformation from social bystanders to participants. After completing the research and analysis, the trainees will enter the training session with a preliminary understanding and cognition of youth leadership, and finally complete the finalization and implementation of the program design.

In addition, Starbucks (China) university partner professors will join the project mentor team for the first time, combining their own growth and workplace experience to share leadership management and communication skills with students. Together with business school professors and public welfare partners, they will help college students effectively improve their leadership from three aspects: communication and collaboration ability, business wisdom and social responsibility, so as to help them grow and succeed.

Tang Jiuhong, director of the fund department of China Soong Ching Ling Foundation, said that in 2014, we will join hands with Starbucks again to jointly establish a youth leadership project to help teenagers understand themselves, improve themselves and achieve themselves. Through one year of project implementation, 500 students visited more than 200 communities, served more than 20000 people, established 100 public welfare projects, and received more than 1 million attention.

Starbucks founder to China welfare will provide serious illness insurance for employees 'parents

Beijing, April 11-According to a report in the Voice of Economics "Tianxia Company," Starbucks founder Howard Schultz attended the "Partners and Family Exchange Meeting" in Beijing today. After listening to three groups of partners sharing the help they received in the company's growth, Schultz said,"About three years ago, I asked thousands of shareholders at the annual shareholders 'meeting. As a public company, we have financial responsibilities to shareholders." But at the same time we are responsible to our partners in 75 countries and regions, hoping that they will be cared for, uplifted and feel cared for here.

Schultz retired from the position of CEO more than a week ago. At present, he is the chairman of Starbucks 'board of directors. His focus has also shifted from global operations to strategic transformation and promotion of partnerships. This time, he came to Beijing not to accept media interviews, not to consult stores, but to have discussions with partners and their families, hoping to understand their feelings about the company. Schultz said that many large companies are fulfilling their responsibilities to society, including employees, the environment and the community. The reason why I value the promotion and development of my partners so much is actually inseparable from my personal experience.

Schultz said, I was born in a poor family, the financial situation is very tight, we live in the house provided by the government, other children can get toys, clothes are extravagant for me, when I was a child almost every day I can feel the hardships of my parents, and their guilt towards me, although I have achieved my career, but there is still a scar in my heart that is difficult to repair. When I was a child, my mother worried that I would learn from the bad kids in the community. I still remember the saying that whoever I am with can become like who I am. So when I started Starbucks, I was open to anyone, regardless of education, regardless of race, religion, sexual orientation, regardless of family background, regardless of work experience, and this is where we're going to give everyone a chance.

Starbucks not only insures partners (part-time or full-time), but also has employee incentive programs for coffee bean stocks, equal promotion, professional training systems for Starbucks universities, and star funds for employees to solve urgent financial problems. Starbucks China announced today that it will provide major illness insurance for parents of partners who have worked full-time for two years to eliminate their worries. At the same time, they also have a partner home program, where out-of-town employees can apply to their supervisors for transfer back home for development. In addition, housing allowance has been provided to full-time baristas and shift supervisors since January 2016.

[Extended reading] Starbuck ice in the UK startled "fecal coliform" determined to come from feces

Beijing, June 30 (Reporter Zhu Min) According to Voice of China's "Evening News Peak" report, recently, the BBC a program to protect consumer rights reported that in the UK's three most common coffee shops: Starbucks, COSTA and Nilu ice detected "fecal coliform". Fecal coliform is simply a bacterium found in faeces. How did it get into the ice? What harm will it cause to the human body?

On the evening of June 28, a BBC television programme called "The Gatekeeper" broadcast an investigation by an undercover investigation team. The survey looked at three of Britain's most popular coffee chains-Starbucks, Costa and Neelow. Before the investigation, the head of a COSTA store vowed that there was no problem with the hygiene in his store."Usually tables and chairs are kept clean, and special tables for making food should not be placed in noisy environments as far as possible."

what is the actual situation? The researchers examined a sample of 30 stores in three stores, each with 10 iced drinks. The results showed that the ice drinks tested were contaminated to varying degrees: Starbucks and Nero Coffee each had three samples of ice cubes detected to contain "fecal coliform", while COSTA had seven samples tested positive for "fecal coliform". Tony Lewis, head of policy research at the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health, was shocked by the sample's "high contamination"."The standard for fecal coliform depends on the amount of it, so to say it's contaminated indicates a lot." Bacteria carried in contaminated ice are opportunistic pathogens that can cause many diseases. These bacteria shouldn't have been detected, especially when the number of bacteria detected was very high."

What shocked Lewis even more was that the detection of "fecal coliform" directly proved its source, and it could be definitely considered to be from feces."Bacteria are everywhere, most of them are beneficial bacteria, but a considerable number of bacteria are harmful to humans." Fecal coliform directly proves its origin. It comes from faeces and faecal-related substances. Therefore, we can speculate that the source of these bacteria may be related to the quality of cleaning after the toilet. Yes, it's disgusting."

In addition to the contaminated ice cubes, the cleanliness of trays and tables and chairs in the three stores is not optimistic. According to the test data in the sample, Starbucks has the worst hygiene conditions. Tony Lewis said that if the amount of fecal coliform bacteria reaches a certain level and enters the human body, there is certainly a risk of inducing disease. You can touch the table or cutlery with your fingers and smell it. If you get a certain amount, you will smell it.

When investigators shared their findings with random passers-by, they cried out in disgust, and one person even held up a cup of coffee from the three stores.

Experts have clearly stated that the source of fecal coliform bacteria is feces. So how does it get into ice cubes that people eat? Isgoleda, a microbiologist at leeds beckett university, said it was almost impossible that the source of contamination was the drinking water itself, given the government's extremely strict rules and testing procedures for bacteria in drinking water. Zhu Yi, an associate professor at China Agricultural University, also believes that pollution is least likely to come directly from water. Zhu Yi pointed out that fecal coliform bacteria account for one-third of human feces, cleaning is not in place is easy to appear in clothes, mobile phones and other places. "For example, the staff is not allowed to wear overalls into the bathroom, which is not standardized enough. In addition, the staff should clean their hands well and thoroughly after defecation, which may not be done properly. In addition, the worker should not touch the food directly with his hands, but should wear gloves, but he may not wear gloves, or his gloves have been contaminated. Another possibility is that his ice machine was not cleaned properly and disinfected regularly. Because of some other contact reasons, fecal coliforms appeared on the machine and finally entered the ice block."

Zhu Yi stressed that although coliform bacteria are widely found in nature, fecal coliform bacteria are never allowed to appear in food in Britain or China, and fecal coliform bacteria have important indicative significance in food hygiene. Most coliforms are nonpathogenic and can coexist peacefully with humans, although some coliforms are pathogenic. When food is contaminated with coliform bacteria, it also increases the likelihood of pathogenicity.

The findings have caused a stir across the UK, and although it is only a survey conducted in the UK, it has also attracted worldwide attention, after all, Starbucks and COSTA are all over the world. Three brands responded separately. Starbucks and Nero said they were investigating the issue. COSTA said it has implemented new hygiene standards for ice making and will introduce new ice storage methods.
