Want to lose some weight? Then you'd better not drink coffee. Caffeine stimulates people's cravings for sweets, according to a new study from Cornell University. The researchers recruited 107 volunteers and randomly divided them into two groups. The first group drank decaf plus 200 milligrams of caffeine supplements, and the other group drank decaf plus an additive that tasted the same bitterness as the first group. but this additive does not affect the sweet, sour, salty and other tastes of coffee. Both groups of volunteers drank coffee with sugar. Next, the researchers asked them to take a taste test. As a result, compared with the bitter additive group, the caffeine supplement group felt that the coffee was not so sweet.

Caffeine weakens taste buds' perception of sweetness, making foods and drinks less sweet, leading people to eat more sugar, the researchers report in the latest bimonthly issue of the Journal of Food Science.

The researchers also found that there was no significant difference in sharpness among the volunteers, regardless of whether their drinks contained caffeine or not. The researchers say this is actually the placebo effect of coffee. What plays a key role in this is the act of drinking coffee itself, which is reminiscent of being sharper after drinking coffee.
