Honduras is the fifth largest exporter of coffee beans. Taiwan Sugar announced today that the first batch of imported Hongguo coffee beans will be sold in the Taiwan Sugar Channel at the end of the year, and will set up an office in Honduras to deepen agricultural exchanges.

Taiwan Sugar held a press conference on "Honduras Coffee Treasure Island" this morning, announcing that raw coffee beans will be imported from Honduras, the world's fifth largest coffee exporter, and that roasted raw beans and hanging-ear coffee are expected to be listed on the Taiwan Sugar channel at the end of the year.

Huang Yuzheng, chairman of Taiwan Sugar, Rafa Sierra, Honduran ambassador to Taiwan, Liu Deli, vice minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Wu Fengsheng, vice chairman of the State Council, and others attended the press conference today to personally brew coffee and taste the delicacy of Honduran coffee.

Huang Yuzheng said in his speech that agriculture is the industry for Taiwan Sugar, which has always been very concerned about the safety of agricultural products, the rural environment, and the livelihood of small farmers. When I visited Honduras at the beginning of this year, I thought that agriculture could provide a platform for long-term business in Taiwan and Honduras, and at the same time enable small farmers in both countries to improve their livelihood. It is expected that this product will become a story and temperature product in Taiwan Sugar, which will set up an office in Honduras by the end of the year.

In his speech, Liu Deli mentioned that in January this year, high-quality Honduran products, including beef, seafood and sugar, were introduced one after another, and melons and avocados will continue to be imported in the future. With the promotion of the presidents of the two countries, Taiwan Sugar introduced high-quality coffee and set up an office at the end of the year, proving its long-term procurement and determination.

In his speech, Wu Fengsheng talked about his experience in visiting Honduras in August this year to learn about the process of small farmers cultivating coffee trees in the mountains at an altitude of 1100 to 1600 meters every day. Honduras's policy of taking care of small farmers is also impressive. After the Taiwan Sugar Office is established in the future, it is believed that there will be more actual production and marketing cooperation in agricultural products.

In an interview with the media later, the general manager of Taiwan Sugar pointed out that at present, the first batch of imported coffee beans is about 16 to 18 tons. After the barista's cup test, the taste and price will be adjusted. It is expected that by the end of the year, people will be able to buy whole packages of coffee beans in Taiwan Sugar channel, or they can also buy hanging-ear coffee directly.

According to the Honduran Coffee exporters Association (Adecafeh), by the end of the harvest year (to the end of September), Honduras exported a total of 8.08 million bags (46 kg each) of coffee; it became the world's fifth largest coffee exporter, with about 71 per cent exported to Europe, 24 per cent exported to continental American countries and 4 per cent to Asia.
