American doughnut brand Dunkin' Donuts is considering giving up the second half of the brand name, but delicious doughnuts will not disappear from the menu.
Dunkin' Donuts CEO Travis said on the 26th that the brand chain hopes to remain "number one in doughnut retailing" and that "our doughnuts will always be sold."
Travis says the second store, named only Dunkin', will open in Quincy, Massachusetts, about next year. The doughnut branch in Pasadena, Calif., has been tested under a shortened name, but Travis says he hasn't decided whether to adopt a simplified name globally.
"my two kids think we should keep the name Dunkin' Donuts all the time," he said. "
Travis said the company continues to cut the entire menu of about 1000 stores, including some types of doughnuts, to make franchise stores easier to operate. Too many coffee syrup, sandwiches, breads and other items can make employees scramble.
The company said on the 26th that the increase in Dunkin' Donuts sales led to the earnings growth of its parent company Dunkin Brand Group in the third quarter. "31 Ice Cream" is also part of its business. Sales of Dunkin' Donuts coffee and espresso are up, but ice drinks are down.
Travis said Dunkin' Donuts's morning sales were growing faster than during the day because there was a US $2 (about NT $60) discount on cheese and eggs during the day. He is also "optimistic" about future discount meals, where he can enjoy fresh eggs with fragrant cheese for US $5 (about NT $152).
Dunkin' Donuts came to Taiwan to set up shop for six years and then withdrew completely from Taiwan at the end of 2012.
