Rose coffee beans, some people call it geisha coffee or geisha beans, are actually the same kind of coffee beans. Its name comes from Geisha Mountain in Ethiopia, which sounds like the famous Japanese geisha, hence its name.
Rosa Coffee Bean has an extraordinary legend. It turns out that this kind of coffee bean originated from southwestern Ethiopia in Africa. In 1963, the rose summer coffee tree was introduced from Costa Rica to Panama by Don Pachi Serracin. Because the yield is not high, it directly affects the harvest, and the coffee farmers are not willing to grow it. It was not until Daniel Peterson, the owner of the Panama La Esmeralda in Panama, accidentally discovered that at the top of his coffee farm, the coffee beans produced by these rose summer coffee trees, which used to be used as a windbreak, had the citrus and floral aroma peculiar to African beans. Independent of its coffee beans, participate in the 2004 Panamanian coffee bean cup test competition and become a hit. Since then, Rosa coffee beans have been unstoppable and have been the champion of the Panamanian coffee cup test competition for many years. In the eyes of boutique coffee lovers all over the world, Rosa coffee beans are undoubtedly the supreme treasure.
From 2004 to now, we can still say... Panamanian Rose Summer Coffee beans are the first in the world, and the Panamanian Emerald Manor is one of the best.
However, who knows, the first introduction of Rosa Variety in China was as early as 2002.
In 2002, Mr. Wang Tianen, who emigrated to Brazil, returned from Brazil and brought back 100 coffee seeds collected by different coffee trees near his home. To sow seeds in Pingtung coffee garden.
After completing the breeding in the nursery, it was planted in the Pingtung coffee garden to get along with the Taiwanese TYPICA varieties that had been colonized in the previous three years. The seedlings of these TYPICA varieties were mainly transplanted from Taiwu Mountain area and Jiuhao Tea Mountain area, and a few of them were obtained from Devon Mountain area. All are seedlings under abandoned coffee trees.
The appearance of these 100 newly transferred coffee seedlings is very different from that of Taiwan TYPICA. Most of the plants have low tree type and short lateral branches. There is also a great difference between flowering stage and fruit performance. Was it suspected to be a CATIMOR variety in the early days? It was later determined to be red bourbon.
A few plants grow into tall, strong and sturdy trees, which are similar to TYPICA in appearance, which are CATURRA and MUNDO NOVO.
Among them, the tree type of two coffee trees is the most special, and the inner angle of lateral branches is very different from that of general varieties.
Since 2008, we have been searching for information and comparing them. And look forward to finding institutions that can identify varieties and whether they can contact and send samples for complete identification in order to confirm varieties. Even thought of inviting foreign experts to teach local producers to identify coffee varieties, and by the way, to identify various coffee varieties in Taiwan.
By mid-2009, a rough comparison of these two coffees is likely to be rosy summer, but it is not sure yet. It was not until January 1, 2010, when Mr. Graciano Cruz of Panama was invited to the post-coffee processing workshop and invited him to look at the two coffee trees, that they were determined to be rosy summer varieties.
Write down this information in memory of Mr. Wang Tianen who introduced the rose summer variety for the first time. The slender figure of Rose Summer has always appeared in front of my eyes, doubling my sadness.
