Coffee mellow Journey (12) Haitian Coffee-fragrant "gone with the Wind"
Haiti was the first independent country in Latin America and the first black republic. Although it is now one of the poorest countries in the world, Haiti has a glorious past. In 1780, 40% of sugar and 60% of coffee on the European market came from Haiti. Haiti produces more of these agricultural products than the entire West Indies combined. In 1791, Haiti led the world in sugar production. This may surprise many people.

The word Haiti means "mountainous country" in Indian. It is located in the western part of the Caribbean island of Hispaniola and shares with Dominica the second largest island in the Caribbean. Beautiful scenery, tortuga is a world-famous tourist destination, is a dream tourist paradise! Haiti is 75% mountainous, and the undulating terrain makes the climate diverse, which is very conducive to the growth of plants, the most important of which is coffee.
Coffee is Haiti's main export. Although there are many unstable factors in the political and economic environment of Haiti, Haitian coffee has been growing relatively steadily. Because farmers are so poor, Haitian coffee is mostly grown in pure natural conditions. On the contrary, this makes Haitian coffee retain a good natural flavor! Coffee beans are full-bodied, although they do not have very outstanding taste characteristics, but they are quite well-balanced and full-bodied, with a mild taste. In Japan, Haitian coffee is mixed with Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee to make Blue Mountain Coffee more intense.
Coffee production in Haiti is limited by the economic and political environment, so most of the grades are not high. But there are exceptions to everything. There are a small number of high-end products in Haitian coffee, which are produced in the same process as other boutique coffee and are often called "Port-au-Prince" coffee or "Blue Haiti" coffee on the market. They have beautiful acidity and rich taste, and the gentle and smooth feeling is not reminiscent of the turbulent Haiti, but has the beautiful feeling of heaven. These are all famous products in the coffee market, and they are expensive.
Unfortunately, the proportion of such high-end products is too small, and now coffee production in Haiti is on the decline! Because poverty and even basic food and clothing cannot be guaranteed, people have to start to shift from growing cash crops to crops.) Look at the countries around Haiti: Cuba, Dominica, Puerto Rico, Jamaica, each of which is a big name in the coffee world, if Haitian coffee can get enough support for stable development, this "beauty" in gone with the Wind is still worth waiting for and expecting.
