The Panamanian Tourism Bureau, the Ministry of the Environment and the Ministry of Agricultural Development recently launched a "Coffee Tour" project in the province of Chiriki, Panama. The project aims to develop the tourism value contained in the coffee industry. At present, 18 coffee plantations, a number of travel agencies and hotels have participated.

Chiriki province is located in western Panama. Within its jurisdiction lies Mount Chiriki, Panama's highest peak. The area around the volcano is rich in soil nutrients and suitable climate, which is the main coffee producing area in Panama. The world-famous Rose Summer Coffee is produced here.

Ortiz, head of tourism development and planning of the Panamanian Tourism Bureau, told our reporter: "the core content of the 'coffee tour' project is coffee, but in addition to coffee, we have also joined supporting projects, such as visiting beekeeping farms, orchards, vegetable gardens, and interacting with farm animals. Our goal is to integrate local resources to form a complete industrial chain. " The local government hopes that the "Coffee Tour" project will combine eco-tourism with coffee production and use natural resources to create "green" jobs.

Coffee plantations participating in the Coffee Tour project have passed the relevant evaluation and completed registration. "these plantations are equipped with personnel and facilities to receive tourists, and the person in charge has also signed relevant agreements to ensure that the reception capacity meets a certain standard." Ortiz introduced.

Banbituo Coffee Plantation is one of the plantations involved in the Coffee Tour project. Sidon, who is in charge of operations and finance, said: "visitors can experience the whole process of coffee from picking, processing, roasting to brewing, taste pure coffee, and understand the story behind the coffee."

The Coffee Tour project has established mutual cooperation between the public and private sectors of Panama. Sidon said that the Panamanian Tourism Board is very supportive of the project and actively allocates resources to promote the progress of the project. "the government also provides us with lectures and training to help us familiarize ourselves with the tourism industry. Of course, we will also increase our investment in training and facilities and design tourist routes. "

Another plantation involved in the project is the Donneno Coffee Plantation, which has a history of more than 100 years. Ruiz is the fourth-generation coffee operator in his family. "We have been receiving tourists since 1994," she told this newspaper. Joining the Coffee Tour program allows us to increase our contacts with the local community and gives the next generation the opportunity to experience the latest developments in the coffee industry. " In her view, the Coffee Tour project increased collaboration among departments. "the power of aggregation can create greater market opportunities and be conducive to the rational use of resources."

Now, the Panamanian Tourism Board is promoting the Coffee Tour project on its website and social networks. According to Ortiz, the promotion of the Chinese market is about to begin. "We are preparing promotional materials in Chinese, such as introductions to coffee plantations and travel projects, which will be launched on platforms such as Weibo and Wechat, so that tourists can book trips directly." Sidon showed strong interest in the Chinese market: "We are going to hire a Chinese tour guide and hope to attend the exhibition in China as soon as possible to promote Panamanian coffee."
