Last Updated: 2024/11/17, Brazilian coffee production will reach 44.57 million bags (60 kilograms each) this year, a decrease of 9.33 percent from 2013, according to the latest forecast released by the Brazilian state supply company on the 15th.

Brazilian coffee production will reach 44.57 million bags (60 kilograms each) this year, a decrease of 9.33 percent from 2013, according to the latest forecast released by the Brazilian state supply company on the 15th.

Of these, Arabica coffee production was 32.24 million bags, accounting for 72.4 percent of the total output, a decrease of 15.81 percent compared with last year; the remaining 12.33 million bags belonged to Robusta coffee, and the output will increase by 13.49 percent over last year.

This forecast breaks the relatively stable production cycle in Brazil since 2005. 2013 was a small year of the coffee production cycle, with an annual output of 49.15 million bags, 3.3 per cent less than the previous year. This year is the big year of the production cycle, and the output should have increased significantly compared with last year.

The main reason for the reduction in production this year is the severe drought in the main producing areas, forcing producers to reduce their planting area and expand the production of robusta coffee, which is more resistant to drought, but the latter has a poor market in the market. The total area of coffee cultivation in Brazil this year is 2.27 million hectares, 1.9% less than last year.

The Brazilian coffee harvest season begins at the end of March and will last until October. Brazil is the world's leading exporter of coffee, accounting for 1/3 of the international market, and the main export markets are Germany, the United States and Italy.
