Coffee cherry fruit generally has two flat seeds, if one does not grow properly, only one bean seed sprouts, in a fruit there is only a small round bean (deformed), with a small crack in the middle, it is called pea-shaped coffee bean (peaberry). Round beans (Peaberry) are also known as perle, Perla and caracol.
Only about 5% of normal Arabica coffee beans are small fruit coffee beans, which are more precious and more expensive than normal beans because they are small in quantity and have to go through screening steps. Because round bean coffee contains the nutrients of two and a half beans, its taste is richer than that of plain beans.
In the coffee growing area of Yunnan, the local people also call round beans "single cell beans". It grows in the dry and hot valley of Lujiangba in Baoshan, with an altitude of 535-1300 meters above sea level. It has unique natural conditions and high-level cultivation techniques and management experience. With neat bean shape and rich aroma, it is the traditional boutique of Yunnan coffee.
