Finca Las Brisas
This small piece is produced and processed by Carlos Alberto Ulchur, a small farmer member of the Cauca production group ASORCAFE-Inza. Produced at an altitude of 1900 meters, this very special site is selected from other producers in the organization because of its very good quality. Coca-Cola, caramel, berries and stewed fruit, with a juicy taste and very good acidity, this coffee amazes us and is a great display that is offered in remote and often neglected parts of Colombia.
Inza is located in a corner of Cauca province, bordering Tolima and Wirat, overlooking the Pacific Ocean to the west. The area is located in the "Macizo Colombiano" (Colombian plateau), which surrounds the peaks of Tolima and Wirat and is an important source of water and wildlife, in addition to being a major coffee grower.
ASORCAFE (Asociacion de Productores de Cafe del Oriente Caucasus) represents a total of about 450 manufacturers in the entire sector. However, the goods were selected from the old Ulchur products this year. In Pedregal's cupping lab, every producer who delivers medicine to the team has his own cup of destiny. Plots with 85 points or more are reserved for the small Cauca plot Inza provided by Melcanta. However, encouraged by our partner in Colombia, Santa Barbara Manor, the group also began to retain areas with cup scores above 85 or showing special or unique qualities. These strict standards lead to very small, very special micro-batches, such as this one, that can be exported.
The Coffee Growers Association (association of coffee growers, ASORCAFE) was founded in 2004 by 10 entrepreneurial coffee growers who are tired of private parchment buyers buying coffee at lower prices than national prices. The violent past in the region, and the presence of a large number of FARC guerrillas, have historically prevented the presence of FNC (Colombia's excellent National Coffee Council) and exporters specializing in special products in the region. The reduction in violence has led growers in the region to seek increased quality to enter the market, taking advantage of not only the wonderful coffee growing conditions in the region, but also the economic resources brought by nearby tourist attractions (for example, the World Heritage site "Park Nacional de Tierradentro Arqueologico"). In the future, Mercanta fully expects the coffee from the region to get better and better.
