Gesha Village Coffee Estate

The story begins in 2007, Adam Overton is a documentary director and photographer wife Rachel Samuel in the process of filming a documentary for the Ethiopian government Li Feng in Ethiopia coffee, first came to the Gera coffee forest in Bench-Maji area (Bench-Maji), in the filming days, they not only re-know Ethiopia this great land, but also came up with the idea of establishing their own coffee farm and brand.

In 2009, they were lucky enough to meet Willem Boot, the famous mule manor owner and BOP judge, and Willem Boot's idea also provided an opportunity for Overton and his wife: after returning to Ethiopia, it was difficult and persistent to find the birthplace of Guixia.

Finally, they came to Banchimaji, a region of southwest Ethiopia near South Sudan, where there are many places called Gesha villages and where the native species of Guixia are most likely to be found. But when they arrived in 2011, there was nothing there.

Adam followed WillemBoot in the forest around the estate began to "explore", in a dense forest magically wrapped in the jungle, found a variety of wild trees, the most let them surprise is the wild rose summer.

Later, they learned that this was the Gori Gesha Forest, where the seeds of Gesha were first discovered. So they collected seeds from native rose trees, sifted them, and planted them in rose village. They decided to establish the estate here and named it Gesha Village Coffee Estate, a 475-hectare coffee farm located about 12 miles from the Gori Gesha Forest.

Gesha Village Coffee Estate is completely different from most Ethiopian farms. It is not a small farm, but a 500-hectare large farm with its own washing plant and laboratory. It is located in the southwest near the border with Sudan. The most special thing is that the whole farm only grows summer varieties, not Ethiopian native varieties.

The village divides the farm into eight blocks, with three main summer varieties, all of which are harvested from nearby forests, not Panama.

The first harvest of 2015, which began in October 2011, was well received, and with the assistance of Willem Boot, owner of Panamanian Coffee, they offered 21 microlots in the first international bidding held on May 31, 2017, 19 of which were 120 kg, and several smaller lots. Bidders from Europe, North America, Asia, and Australia responded unexpectedly enthusiastically, and the final bid was $85/lb, breaking all previous auction prices for African beans!

CHAKA

What is CHAKA?

The coffee classification of Guixia Village includes: bidding, gold standard, red standard, green standard and CHAKA.

CHAKA is a summer blend produced by Gori Gesha Village Manor, which consists of Gori Gesha, 1931 and Illubabor (Ethiopia's native disease-resistant variety).

varieties

Gori Gesha (GG) This variety replicates the genetic diversity found in the Gori Gesha coffee forest.

Gesha 1931 (G31) has a variety of forest combinations, very similar to Panama's Gesha, selected by observing plant type, bean-type appearance, mesh size, and cup flavor.

Illubabor Forest 1974 (IF) was discovered during an expedition to Illubabor Forest in 1974, after which an antibody strain was developed by the Ethiopian Research Center.

stroke method

This summer village CHAKA is sun treatment method.

After removing impurities from floating matter, the beans are then covered with a thin layer of plastic cloth on an African overhead trellis, and when dried in a sun bed, they are screened again to select moth-eaten beans and green beans. The total drying time is 18-30 days.
