What's the taste of spring-picked tea from Arya Tea Garden in Arya, India in 2021? Is Darjeeling Spring Tea Oolong?
The reason why the black tea produced in the first tea season in Darjeeling tends to be green in Darjeeling Tea, the tea produced in the first tea season belongs to spring picked tea. Darjeeling spring tea is green. From the outside, it looks like a kind of green tea. Because of the nature of spring tea, many people mistakenly think it is green. In fact, it is green because the manufacturer does so deliberately. Darjeeling's first tea is fermented (oxidized) for nearly zero hours after rolling to keep it green and give people a fresh floral fragrance. If it takes longer to ferment, it will turn copper red like autumn black tea. In February, we began to hear that Darjeeling's first brewing tea was on sale in the tea market. In March, most Darjeeling Tea seemed to have gone public. The latitude of Darjeeling's tea producing area is similar to that of Fujian or Taiwan in China. Yunnan Province lies to the south of Darjeeling. Therefore, we can assume that as long as the altitude is the same, the harvest time in these areas is similar. In Yunnan, tea gardens about 1600 meters above sea level will not be picked until the end of March. For tea gardens about 2000 meters above sea level, tea can be picked in mid-April. So it sounds strange if Darjeeling Tea at high altitude is ready in February or early March. Why does Darjeeling tea grow faster, even though the latitude is farther north than Taiwan or Yunnan?

In fact, Darjeeling Tea who was picked in February or early March did not come from a high-altitude tea garden. In Darjeeling, the tea garden is not only located at a higher altitude. Many famous tea gardens are made up of a large area, ranging from a low altitude of a few hundred meters to a high altitude of more than 2000 meters. For example, Singbulli tea plantations range from 360m to 1230 meters above sea level and Risheehat tea plantations range from 760m to 1230 meters above sea level. So, early-produced tea actually comes from lower elevations, but these early batches of tea are sold at a premium because it is in the early season. The price of new tea in spring is always high because it is often sought after by tea drinkers. Even in Darjeeling, as in other places, the higher the altitude, the later spring comes. In fact, tea at high altitudes is harvested very late and is usually ready in April. We are very interested in those tall tea because it has a more comprehensive taste and flavor, a softer taste and a more lasting aftertaste. So we waited until April to successfully get the first bucket of black tea from the high elevations of Darjeeling. In high-altitude tea gardens, tea grows slowly. Due to the change of day and night, the temperature difference between day and night is large. Gaoshan tea has a mellow taste and a long aftertaste, without bitterness or astringency.

Spring-picked tea in Arya Arya Tea Garden is made from clonal shrubs. The tea garden is located at an altitude of 2000 meters. Tea is made from relatively mature leaves. Its name is Chunhua. It tastes as fresh as Chunhua and as sweet as vanilla. The tea tastes clean and has a long aftertaste. This kind of tea also has some similarities with white tea or slightly fermented / oxidized oolong tea.
