Swiss retailers launch eco-friendly coffee balls and coffee capsules stand aside?
Coffee is a popular and popular drink at present, but now the coffee category is subdivided, among which instant coffee and capsule coffee stand out among many derivative coffee products with their high convenience. Capsule coffee machines released by coffee companies such as Nestle will make coffee in a convenient way, and capsule coffee will grow explosively worldwide.
But it also creates a new problem: a pile of used metal and plastic waste after each use.
Swiss retailer Migros has a solution to this situation. Migros and Zurich presented one of the brand's coffee capsules at a launch event on September 6, local time, and announced the official launch of a new capsule coffee system, Coffee B, to replace the coffee capsules that generate thousands of tons of garbage every year.
Migros 'new coffee capsule is described as a tan pellet coated with a thin, colorless, odorless algae-based coating.
Unlike many coffee capsules on the market today, which contain plastic and aluminum shells, this coffee ball is compostable. After use, users can throw the used coffee balls directly into the compost bin or on the ground, and the coffee balls will completely degrade in a few weeks.
Migros said Coffee B, which works with coffee balls, will be launched first in Switzerland and France this year and in Germany in 2023.
The use of algae materials as packaging appears to be a relatively innovative trend in recent years.
Many of the outer packaging we are exposed to today is made of plastic materials, even our tea bags are no exception.
American researchers have found that plastic products such as take-away coffee cups will shed trillions of plastic particles in 20 minutes of hot water. Algal material reduces that number directly to zero.
Tea bags or coffee made from algae can be mixed with hot water in a cup without fear of plastic particles, while adding some fiber and antioxidants to the drink. Algae can be processed without worrying about any extra flavor.
Algae packaging materials have long entered the lives of ordinary people. In 2019, at a marathon in London, organizers distributed more than 30,000 edible water bags to athletes. The same small bag is made of algae film, odorless and edible, even if it is discarded, it will biodegrade in four to six weeks and return to nature, leaving no waste.
The development of science and technology always brings new surprises to people. Do you think coffee balls will replace coffee capsules?
