An Oklahoma couple bought an extra-large American and an extra-large caramel Frappuccino at a Starbucks on Jan. 7, the New York Post reported. The two drinks cost a total of $11.83 (about RMB 81).

It wasn't until a few days later, when the couple checked out at the supermarket with the same credit card, that they were told that they couldn't pay the excess. Not only the credit card quota was wiped out, but even the trip to visit relatives in Thailand was cancelled, and the air tickets purchased could not be cancelled.

So the couple returned to the store with the tip, hoping that the store could refund the tip. But! The person in charge of the store involved said that the consumption was collected legally, so he did not agree to refund the tip. For such a refusal reason, the couple think it is very unreasonable, because they clearly chose not to tip, and the tip option is only up to $2, and finally charged such a high fee.

Only after the couple communicated with several Starbucks executives in the next few days did the store agree to send a check saying they would refund the tip in full. I thought the problem would be solved after receiving the check. As a result, when I got the check and went to the bank to cash it, I found that the check could not be cashed.

The regional manager of the store involved told the media that the first check would not be redeemable because of typos. At the same time, it said that such a problem occurred because of the huge tips paid by the guests when they placed the order. The couple thought Starbucks was "visiting the garden", so they finally called the police in the hope that the police would be involved in the investigation to see if the tip was collected because of an error in the system or deliberately.

At the same time, the couple also denied the regional manager's claim, pointing out that the district manager told him it was a network problem: "I know how to press those buttons, and I didn't press them either." With the intervention of the police, Starbucks officials sent a second check very quickly. And responded to the media on February 10 that the couple had successfully cashed the check on the 6th of this month, and the high tip had been fully refunded.
