When it comes to coffee, coffee is grown in many countries on every continent in the world. Africa, it can be said to be the most important part of coffee, in addition to Ethiopia, which is recognized as the birthplace of coffee, there are also many countries that grow coffee, such as Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and so on. Kenya can be said to be one of the famous producing areas in Africa.

Kenyan coffee

Kenya is located in eastern Africa, which runs through the central part of the equator and the Great Rift Valley of East Africa from north to south. Most of the country is a plateau with an average elevation of 1500 meters, and Mount Kenya in the central highlands is as high as 5199 meters above sea level. Kenya has a diverse climate, the whole territory is located in the tropical monsoon area, the coastal area is humid and hot, the plateau climate is mild, and the annual average temperature is 12-26 ℃. Because it is located in the equator, and there are high mountains and volcanic soil, such a climate and environment give birth to Kenyan boutique coffee.

Sika / Azaria processing plant

Kenya has a large number of coffee producing areas, which are concentrated in the southwest of the country, including Bongma Bungoma, Embu Embu, Kiambu Kiambu, Kirinyaga Kirinyaga, Kisi Kisii, Machakos Machakos, Meru Menu, Elgonne Mt.Elgon, Mulanga Murang'a, Nakuru Nakuru, Neri Nyeri, Sika Thika, Tata Vita Taita Taveta, Transn-Enzoya Trans-Nzoia. There are 14 producing areas, of which Minli, Kilinia, Mulanga, Kiribu and Sika are the most famous.

Sika is a small town in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, where there are many coffee fields around Nairobi. Although Sika is an industrial town, it is surrounded by agriculture and waterfalls, and there are about 2000 farmers in the Sika area. At present, SL28, SL34, Riuri 11 and bourbon varieties are mainly planted in this area. There are well-known processing plants in the Sika producing areas, such as the Asaria Asali processing plant, which means honey in the Kenyan official language, Swahili, and is located in the Sika producing area of the Great Rift Valley of the Aberdare Mountains in Kenya.

SL34&SL28

SL28 and SL34. In the late 1930s, the Kenyan government commissioned 42 varieties from the former Scott Agricultural Laboratory (now the National Agricultural Laboratory) to study their yield, quality, drought and disease resistance. SL stands for Scott Laboratories, the abbreviation of Scott Laboratory, and SL34 and SL28 is one of them. In the end, it was found that the quality and flavor of these two varieties were good, but they were prone to coffee disease.

In genetic testing, SL28 is derived from bourbon variety, while SL34 is derived from tin card variety. But the two styles are similar in flavor, have complex and changeable acidity, and have a great sweetness in the finish, with a heavier, fuller SL28 and higher cleanliness on the palate.

K72 washing treatment

In terms of treatment, Kenyan coffee is mainly washed, but Kenyan water washing will be more special. After harvesting the fruit, coffee farmers will first select the high-quality fruit, after peeling, put it into a washing tank for 24 hours of soaking and fermentation, clean it after completion, remove part of the pectin, and ferment again for 24 hours after changing water, so that it can be recycled 3 times for a total of 72 hours. finally, it can be dried. Therefore, this treatment is called Kenya 72-hour fermentation water washing treatment, referred to as K72. Using this treatment, coffee beans can be fermented at low temperature for a long time, making the acid brighter and the taste cleaner.
