Guatemalan Coffee beans | introduction of Rosa Coffee beans in New Oriental region
Speaking of Rose Summer, many people will think of Panama. In 2005, the Emerald Manor used the Rose Summer variety to participate in the competition and bid for the best Panamanian BOP, and won the championship for its unique flavor and unusually high score, which broke the auction price of coffee beans at that time, which also made the Rose Summer variety famous. The move has attracted other coffee-producing countries to introduce rose varieties, including Guatemala.
Guatemalan coffee
Guatemala is located in the south of the North American continent, bordering Mexico, Honduras, Belize and El Salvador, the Caribbean island of the Gulf of Honduras to the east and the Pacific Ocean to the south. Guatemala is an agricultural country. There are 2/3 mountains and plateaus in Guatemala, with the Kuchu Matanes Mountains in the west and the Madre Mountains in the south. There are more than 30 volcanoes in the west and south, of which Tahumurco volcano is 4211 meters above sea level, which is the highest peak in Central America. Guatemala is in the tropics, with two dry and wet seasons in a year, with wet seasons from May to October and dry seasons from November to April of the following year. Guatemala has tropical rain forests, volcanic soil and a changeable microclimate, bringing elegant and lively acidity, clean odor-free and layered coffee flavor to Guatemalan coffee beans.
New Oriental producing area
Coffee is grown in 20 of Guatemala's 22 provinces. Eight of them are well-known, divided into five volcanic producing areas and three non-volcanic producing areas, and coffee is planted at an average elevation of more than 1500 meters. Non-volcanic areas include Vivette Nanguo (Huehuetenango), Coban (Coban) and New Oriental (Nuevo Oriente). Volcanic areas include Atitlan, Antigua, Acatenango, Fraijanes and San Marcos. Among them, Vivette Nanguo and Antigua are more famous. Qianjie Coffee has a washed Vivette Nanguo Coffee, which is selected as an entry representative, with citrus and berry acidity, nutty aroma and tea aftertaste.
New Oriental is located in eastern Guatemala, adjacent to Honduras, New Oriental Nuevo Oriente is the youngest coffee producing area, only in the 1950s began to grow coffee in this area. Rain Water is abundant in this area all the year round, with an altitude of 1500-2050 meters above sea level, so the area is always shrouded in mist, the sunshine time is relatively short, and it will be wetter than other producing areas. New Oriental used to be one of the poorest and most isolated regions in Guatemala, because in ancient times, the region was a volcanic area, and the soil here was composed of metamorphic rocks that evenly mixed many minerals. Different from other volcanic soil producing areas, coupled with the rich Rain Water and high altitude, the coffee beans produced here are quite complex and changeable in flavor.
Rosesia variety
Rose summer was first discovered in the Kafa forest in Ethiopia in 1931, but at that time people only cared about yield rather than quality, so rose varieties were not taken seriously. It was later sent to the Lyamungu Research Station in Tanzania and then taken to the Tropical Agricultural Research and Teaching Centre (CATIE) in Central America in 1953, where it was registered as T2722. In 1970, Costa Rican rose summer to tolerate leaf rust, distributed to Panama for cultivation, and finally because the jadeite manor discovered its delicate jasmine and peach flavor, made rose famous, and was introduced by other countries to grow.
