Panamanian coffee is well-known in the global coffee market, especially the rose summer variety. As early as the end of the 19th century, Europeans immigrated to Panama to bring coffee to Panama to grow, and in 2005, the rose summer planted at the Emerald Manor won the best Panama BOP competition and auctioned at a high price, making Panamanian coffee and rose varieties famous in the coffee world.

Panama (Panama)

Panama is located in the south of Central America, facing the Caribbean Sea to the east, the Pacific Ocean to the west, Costa Rica to the west, Colombia to the east, the land connecting North and South America in s shape, and the Panama Canal connecting the Atlantic Ocean and the Pacific Ocean from north to south, so it is called "the bridge of the world". The country has undulating terrain, vertical and horizontal valleys, mostly mountainous areas in addition to the north and south coastal plains, and has a number of volcanoes, forest resources and rivers.

Panama, close to the equator, has a tropical maritime climate, humid during the day and cool at night, with an annual average temperature of 23-27 ℃, drought and rain, and an average annual rainfall of 1500-2500 mm. Under the influence of such geographical location, Panama has a complex and changeable microclimate, and the east-to-west environment allows cold air to flow through the Central Mountains and converge above 6500 feet, thus forming a very unique microclimate in the Boquete and Volc á n Candela regions, making it a major producer of Panamanian coffee. The land around this area is rich in nutrients, and these fertile soils provide perfect conditions for the growth of coffee.

Volcan-Candela producing area

Coffee producing areas are mainly divided into Boquete, Volcan-Candela and Renacimiento. These producing areas are located around the country's three volcanoes: Volc á n Baru of Baru, El Valle of Erbaye and Le Yeguada of Rajaguada.

Although the Pokuit area is more famous than the Walken area, in recent years, there are many good estates in the Walken area in the recent Panama BOP competition, but also achieved good results. The Walken producing area is located to the west of Mount Baru, at an altitude of 1200-1600 meters. Although the average rainfall is less than Pokuit, the same high altitude and fertile volcanic soil give coffee trees a good growing environment. At present, in the Walken producing area, there are well-known 90 + Rosa Manor, Aurora Manor and Hartman Manor.

Hartman Manor (Finca Hartmann)

The estate is located in the western part of the Baru volcano at an altitude of 1500-2300 meters. The landowner Alois Strasil Hartmann was born in the Czech Republic and decided to live out of town because of the country's political instability. he first went to New York, then moved to Panama, and finally settled in the Walken region, where he set up a park in 1912 and began to grow coffee. After getting married and giving birth to Hartmann Troetsch, Troetsch inherited his father's farmland and began to take over the work in 1940, and then created the history of Hartman Manor to this day, so Hartman Manor can be said to be a pioneer in the Walken area.

In the early days of the development of the manor, the manor owner decided to retain most of the original forest in the manor, and the concept of original forest protection has been passed on to the third generation of manor owners, so the coffee planting area in the manor accounts for only about 20%, and because of woodland protection, the manor has a considerable number of native birds, and the most famous big beaked bird in the area has also become the standard Logo of the manor. At present, the manor is jointly run by five children, and each child is responsible for coffee growth management, harvesting and handling, and manor visits. And bought the melon and fruit estate north of Hartman Manor (Guarumo Coffee Farm) in 2013. At present, Hartman Manor has a wide variety of coffee, including Typica, Kaddura, Catuai, Bourb ó n, Pacamara, Maragogipe, Geisha and so on.

Geisha coffee beans

The rose variety was first introduced in Ethiopia in the 1930s, then introduced to Tanzania in 1936, introduced to Costa Rica in 1953, and not introduced to Panama from Costa Rica until 1970, but at that time, quantity was not sought after, and the branches of rose plants were relatively thin, so they were not favored by farmers and were not widely planted. Later, the wave of boutique coffee made people begin to pay attention to the flavor and quality of coffee beans. In 2005, the Jade Manor used the rose summer variety to participate in the BOP competition, which became famous for its delicate floral, jasmine, peach, bergamot and unusually high scores.

Rosesia varieties are suitable for planting in areas above 1600 meters above sea level, and the higher the altitude, the better the quality. On the coffee plant, the leaves are thin and slender, the tip of the tender leaves have green top or bronze top, the branches are slender and spaced, the coffee cherry is mainly red or yellow fruit, the shape of raw bean is mainly pointed bean, the overall tree shape is large, but it is relatively fragile, although it has a certain resistance to coffee leaf rust, it is vulnerable to nematode and coffee berry disease and needs careful care.
