In North America, because of the suitable geographical environment and other conditions, many countries grow coffee, such as El Salvador, Honduras, Costa Rica, Mexico and so on. Among them, Mexico is the tenth largest coffee producer in the world, and in recent years, there are many excellent coffee beans.

Mexico Mexcio

Mexico is located in the south of North America, the northwestern tip of Latin America, bordering the United States in the north, Guatemala and Belize in the south, the Caribbean Sea in the east and the Pacific Ocean in the west.

Mexico is basically surrounded by the Madre Mountains, with the Mexican plateau in the center and the flat Yucatan Peninsula in the southeast, while the coastal areas are mostly narrow plains. Mexico has a complex and diverse climate. Due to its many highlands and mountains, the plateau is mild all the year round, with an average temperature of 10-26 ℃. The northwest interior has a continental climate, the coastal and southeastern plains have a tropical climate, and the south has a tropical rain forest climate. Most areas are divided into two seasons: drought (October-April) and rain (May-September).

Coffee producing area

There are more than 500,000 producers in the country, of which more than 95% are small growers with less than 2.83 hectares of land. Planting is distributed in 16 states, but more than 90% of them are distributed in the four main producing areas of southern Chiapas Chiapas, Oaxaca Oaxaca, Veracruz Veracruz and Puebla Puebla.

Oaxaca, Oaxaca: Oaxaca is located in the northwest of Chiapas, and the western part of the state is near the Pacific Ocean. Coffee farms are generally 90-1650 meters above sea level, but the state's coffee production technology is relatively backward, and most farmers prefer traditional planting methods. But this does not mean that the coffee quality in the region is poor, because in the 2024 COE competition in Mexico, the Las Nieves Cooperative from Oaxaca won the championship in the traditional Solar and Honey treatment Group (Traditional Honey & Natural) with a rose variety of 91.13 points.

Las Nieves Manor / Co-operative in Las Nevis

In 1880, on the south side of Sierra Madre in the Madrid Mountains of Oaxaca, where there was plenty of sunshine and pure mountain springs, the Las Nieves estate was founded here, but in the 20th century, with the decline in global coffee prices and the remoteness of the area, the estate was abandoned. Until 2006, Gustavo Boltjes Rising established cooperatives in the area and was re-taking over and managing the estate.

After the takeover of Gustavo, the use of agricultural technology to grow coffee, and the cultivation of Rosa Gesha, Iron pickup Typica, Bourbon Bourbon, Pakamara Pacamara, SL-28 and pointed Bourbon Laurina, and Gustavo's emphasis on woodland conservation and soil health enabled this historic manor to be regenerated.

Gustavo has established cooperatives here and shares planting knowledge, experience and technology with cooperative members to maximize the benefits of these farmers by improving planting techniques and coffee quality, and regularly conducts coffee sensory evaluations in order to produce high-quality coffee.
