"No more than 400 milligrams of caffeine, how many cups would it be if it were hand-brewed and Italian?? "This is a question raised by a friend when he was buying coffee beans at a Qianjie store. As we all know, drinking coffee in moderation is beneficial to the human body! According to research reports, for adults, this moderate amount refers to 400mg. As long as the total caffeine content of the coffee we drink in a day does not exceed 400mg, then it is appropriate (of course, the specific amount will change depending on the person's different physical constitution). Qian Jie believes that this friend is not the only one who is curious about this question. Because friends often consult the caffeine content of Qianjie coffee beans when buying beans, so as to calculate and control the daily caffeine intake to not exceed 400mg. So back to the question raised by the friend at the beginning, how many cups are this converted into hand-brewed or espresso?

In fact, it's easy to calculate. We only need to know what coffee beans are used in this hand-brewed/espresso coffee, and then how many beans are used to calculate an approximate caffeine content. The caffeine in a cup of coffee is mainly affected by two factors, namely, the variety and amount mentioned above on Qianjie. Different varieties have different caffeine content. The varieties mentioned here refer to Arabica and Robusta, and the difference in caffeine content between them is more than double. Robusta's caffeine content averages around 2% to 4% of its own bean weight, while Arabica is only half of its caffeine content, with an average of 0.9% to 1.4%.

In other words, suppose we use 10 grams of coffee beans to make a pot of coffee. If the variety is Robusta, the maximum caffeine content of this cup of coffee may be 400mg, and if the variety is Arabica, the maximum caffeine content of this cup of coffee may be 140mg. That's true, but in fact, the caffeine content of a cup of coffee cannot be calculated directly like this, because we don't dissolve all the caffeine in the coffee beans.

We all know that soluble matters in coffee account for 30% of the weight of beans, including caffeine, and these soluble matters are the main source of the taste of a cup of coffee. But we won't dissolve all 30%, because not all soluble substances in coffee are pleasing. If these unpleasing substances are dissolved too much, the coffee will be obviously bitter, miscellaneous, astringent and other negative manifestations. Therefore, we will control the extraction parameters to prevent excessive dissolution of those undesirable substances. Under normal circumstances, the extraction rate of coffee will be controlled at around 18% to 22%, that is, two-thirds of the total soluble matter. We don't know the dissolved caffeine content. Assuming that the dissolved amount is half, then the calculation method of caffeine for a cup of coffee becomes: amount of coffee beans × caffeine content of coffee bean varieties ÷2.

This way, it will be easy to forget it! Take Qianjie as an example. The coffee beans used by Qianjie when making espresso are the Italian blend of Qianjie strawberry sugar Espresso in the bean list. The coffee beans used to blend this coffee are all Arabica varieties, so we measure it according to the average caffeine content of Arabica varieties. Generally, the amount of powder used for Qianjie extraction and concentration is 20g, so the formula is 20g (powder amount) ×1.4%(average caffeine content of Arabica coffee) ÷2 (removing caffeine that may not have been extracted). It is concluded that the caffeine content of a cup of espresso in Qianjie is about 140mg, and if it does not exceed 400mg, it is about 2 and a half cups.

The amount of coffee beans used for hand-brewed coffee on Qianjie is 15g. Similarly, basically all of them are brewed Arabica seeds, whether it is the dividing line in Qianjie bean list, Xizhao, Yejia Shefei, Guodin, Rose Summer, etc., so we also calculate based on the caffeine content of Arabica. The formula is: 15g×1.4%÷2, which shows that the caffeine content of a cup of hand-brewed coffee on Qianjie is about 105mg, which can be drunk about 3 and a half cups.

However, such calculations can only give us a reference and a general idea, and cannot be fully applied because it is actually not rigorous. First of all, we don't know the specific caffeine content of a variety. The calculation methods mentioned in Qianjie are all calculated based on the maximum average caffeine content of Arabica. There are many small varieties under the Arabica subdivision: Iron Picca, Rose Summer, West Cow, etc. There is a gap in caffeine content between them, and we will not clearly know the caffeine content of each coffee;

Secondly, we cannot accurately control how much caffeine is dissolved in the coffee beans. The time is more and less, and the previous shortcomings are combined. This allows the measurement of caffeine to only be calculated to obtain a general range, a very broad range. range. So we can only use the results calculated by this calculation method as a reference, and then measure the amount of coffee we can consume in ordinary times. Of course, if you really want to drink more coffee but don't want to exceed your daily caffeine intake, try decaf coffee! Decaf coffee is a kind of coffee with extremely low caffeine content. It can be divided into natural and artificial decaf. Most decaf coffees currently on the market are made by artificial decaf. The caffeine content of this type of coffee is only less than 3% of the original caffeine content, which is a standard.

For example, the original caffeine content of 10g of Arabica beans was 140mg, but when we used this Arabica to make decaf coffee, the caffeine content of 10g of Arabica beans was reduced to 4.2 mg. The caffeine content is very low, and the cup intake of coffee can be greatly increased. In Front Street Coffee's Tmall Taobao bean list, there is a decaf coffee from Colombia. It uses Swiss water decaf treatment. This decaf method can remove caffeine and also give coffee. Maintain a certain coffee flavor. For those who want to drink a lot of cups of coffee, it should be a good choice ~
