What grade does Jamaica Blue Mountain No. 1 coffee belong to and how to drink it better? What is the highest grade of Blue Mountain coffee for coffee aristocrats?
Many friends often ask Qianjie this question when buying Blue Mountain coffee beans at Qianjie offline stores: "Is your Blue Mountain coffee number one? "
Some unsuspecting friends will be surprised after hearing it. Is this some secret code to distinguish the authenticity of Blue Mountain coffee? Yesterday, a friend asked Xiang Street about this. In the previous article "What's Good about Blue Mountain Coffee?" Qianjie shared that since the contract between Jamaica and Japan expired in 2008, Blue Mountain Coffee has no longer been monopolized by Japan, and anyone can buy authentic Blue Mountain Coffee from Jamaica. So now, as long as we find a reliable coffee roaster, such as Qianjie, we basically don't have to worry about buying fake Blue Mountain coffee. The so-called "No. 1" actually refers to the level of Blue Mountain coffee. Yes, there are also grades of Blue Mountain coffee. The "Blue Mountain No. 1" passed down by coffee makers refers to the highest level of Blue Mountain coffee.
What is Blue Mountain One? As we all know, the quantity of Blue Mountain coffee is very rare, and the reason why it is rare is not only because the yield of the variety is not high, but also because the official has clarified the area where Blue Mountain coffee is grown. Based on past experience in coffee naming, many friends must immediately associate the coffee grown in the Blue Mountains of Jamaica when they first heard the name of Blue Mountains coffee. Yes, but not entirely. Because only coffee grown in the limited area of 900 - 1700 meters above sea level in the Blue Mountains of Jamaica is Blue Mountain coffee.
In 1948, the Jamaica government established the Coffee Industry Management Office to revitalize Jamaica's coffee industry. The purpose was to manage the quality of all raw beans exported by Jamaica, in an attempt to increase the market share of Jamaica coffee by improving coffee quality. (In 1950, the Jamaica Coffee Industry Management Office was upgraded to the Jamaica Coffee Industry Council-The Jamaica Coffee Industry Board, or CIB for short.) In addition to improving and optimizing the planting and processing process of coffee, the Jamaica Coffee Industry Management Institute also found through cup testing that coffee grown in some areas of the Blue Mountains will have a richer flavor than coffee grown in other locations. Performance in all aspects is better. As a result, the "Coffee Industry Supervision Law" was promulgated to designate exclusive planting areas for Blue Mountain coffee. Only the coffee grown in these areas can be called "Blue Mountain Coffee."
The industry regulatory law divides it like this: only iron pickup coffee grown in the four boroughs of St. Andrew, St. Thomas, Portland and St. Mary and at altitudes between 3,000 feet (about 915 meters) and 5,500 feet (about 1700 meters) can be sold under the name "Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee." Coffee grown outside these areas can only be sold under the name "Jamaica Alpine Coffee" or "Jamaica Choice Coffee." In addition to regions, the Blue Mountain coffee grown in these regions also has a strict grading system. Blue Mountain coffee was divided into four grades: No. 1, No. 2, No. 3, and PB round beans by evaluating the size, color, uniformity, and flaw rate of coffee beans.
No. 1 has the highest grade. Its requirements are that green mountain coffee beans need to reach a size of 17/18 mesh, the flaw rate of green beans should not exceed 3%, and the content of small beans should not exceed 5%. Only Blue Mountain coffee that meets this condition can be classified as the highest level of No. 1, which is what coffee guys call "Blue Mountain No. 1." To sum up, we can know that the reason why many people ask if the Blue Mountain they sell is No. 1 when buying Blue Mountain coffee is because they want to know whether the Blue Mountain they buy is of the highest grade.
From the above grading, we can know that the grading system of Blue Mountain coffee is mainly graded according to size, and the taste of coffee beans does not have much to do with the size, so even No. 2 and No. 3 Blue Mountain coffee, the taste may not be worse than Blue Mountain No. 1. (The PB level is a special one, which refers to the batch of round beans.) Of course, because the price is not much different, many roasters will give priority to the No. 1 Blue Mountain coffee. The Blue Mountain Coffee sold online and offline on Qianjie is No. 1, the highest level of Blue Mountain Coffee. In order to allow everyone to taste the all-powerful delicacy of the Blue Mountains at that time, Qianjie chose the same baking level as the mainstream to cook this bean. We can taste the three outstanding characteristics of Blue Mountain coffee from it: the highest balance in taste, the ultimate smoothness in taste, and the unique elegant fragrance.
Front Street Coffee: Jamaica·Blue Mountain No. 1 Coffee Country: Jamaica Estate: Clifton Estate Altitude: 1300 meters Variety: Blue Mountain Iron Pickup Processing Method: Washing Method Level: NO.1 Flavor: Dark chocolate, nuts, cream
Recommended brewing parameters: powder amount 15g, powder and water ratio 1:15, water temperature 90°C, grinding to 70%~75% of the sieve rate of No. 20, three-stage brewing method, Kono filter cup, brewing takes 2 minutes.
When the coffee enters the entrance, the first thing Qianjie feels is the extreme balance of taste. Although it is a medium-to-deep roasted coffee bean, the taste is not as strong as other deep-roasted coffees. Instead, it is very soft, sweet, sour and bitter. The three flavors are balanced just right; then you taste the aroma of coffee, which is the roasted aroma of traditional deep-roasted coffee such as dark chocolate, nuts, cream, spices, etc., with obvious maple sugar sweetness, and the taste is mellow and smooth; After swallowing the coffee, we can immediately experience a very prominent and long-lasting aftertaste. Not only is it extremely sweet, but the aftertaste also has the unique elegant fragrance of Blue Mountain Coffee. It is very good!
