Xinhua News Agency, Los Angeles (Reporter Plateau) A Swedish study published in the new issue of Stroke magazine said that women who drank more than one cup of coffee a day had a significantly lower risk of stroke than those who drank coffee infrequently.

Researchers at the Caroline School of Medicine in Sweden reported that they followed more than 34000 women between the ages of 49 and 83 for about 10 years. A total of 1680 women suffered strokes during that time, of whom drank less than one cup of coffee a day. The analysis showed that women who drank more than one cup of coffee a day were 22% to 25% less likely to have a stroke than women who drank no coffee at all or less than one cup of coffee a day.

Suzanne Lasson, who led the study, said the study considered other risk factors such as smoking, alcohol consumption, weight and chronic disease. Studies have shown that drinking coffee regularly can reduce the risk of stroke. But you don't need to drink too much. One or two cups a day is enough.

The researchers stressed that further research is needed to understand the mechanism by which coffee drinking reduces the risk of stroke, and that those who do not drink coffee do not need to change their habits immediately as a result.
