According to the on-site judges, during the competition, each contestant must brew 8 cups of coffee within 15 minutes, including 4 cups of individual coffee and 4 cups of creative coffee. During the competition, the contestants will introduce the types, materials and taste of coffee beans while making coffee. The seven judges on the spot will be graded according to the professional requirements. It is worth mentioning that the player who won the championship last year has become a member of the judges this year.
Yang Xinru, a barista from New Taipei City, Taiwan, said that this is her second time to compete in Xiamen. Through the competition, she met many mainland counterparts, who usually communicate with each other and share the latest achievements of coffee. This platform for technological exchange between workers on both sides of the strait has not only improved the quality of coffee production between the two places, but also cultivated public enthusiasm for coffee and attracted more talents to join the industry.
It is understood that the competition is sponsored by Xiamen Labor Competition Committee, Haicang District people's Government and Xiamen Baking and Coffee Association. The technical competition of Western-style pastry chefs and baristas is not only the main event of the 20th Xiamen staff Technical Competition, but also one of the important activities of the Straits staff Forum in 2014. Compared with previous years, the attraction of this competition has been further enhanced, attracting a total of 60 coffee and roasters from both sides of the Taiwan Strait, including 20 from Taiwan (10 baristas and 10 Western-style pastry chefs) and 40 from the mainland. It is reported that since the 18th Workers' Technical Competition successfully opened the prelude to the cross-strait workers' technical competition in 2012, cross-strait workers' technical competitions have been held every year during the Cross-Strait Workers' Forum. this activity has become a characteristic brand to improve the quality of workers on both sides of the strait and strengthen cross-strait exchanges.
