Prices of coffee and tea in Kenya have fallen sharply
According to the latest data from the Kenya Bureau of Statistics, the price of Kenyan coffee has fallen from 344.3 shillings per kilogram (about US $4, the current exchange rate of the US dollar to the shilling rate is 85.9, the same below) to 229.83 shillings in May. Total coffee production in the first May of 2013 was 23358 tons, compared with 24865 tons in the same period in 2012, and the total income of coffee growers was 6.94 billion, a decrease of 2.64 billion from the same period last year. Tea prices fell from 284.11 shillings in January to 210.09 shillings in May, but total tea production increased in the previous May.
It is reported that the low quality coffee beans produced in Kenya from December to February 2012 and the hot weather reduced the demand for black tea imports in Egypt and other countries is an important reason for the decline in prices.
