On October 4th, 13800 people in Colombia drank coffee together, setting a Guinness world record for the largest number of coffee drinkers.

In a square in Tunha, the capital of Colombia's Boyaca province, 13800 people gathered to drink coffee. The local government and the National Union of Coffee producers, which co-organized the event, said they had submitted evidence to apply for the Guinness Book of World Records. Cologne, Germany, held the world's largest "coffee party" in August 2009, attracting 8162 people to drink coffee, according to the official Guinness website.

Organizers of the Colombian event also said that they hope to encourage Colombians to drink coffee through the event. Thanks to lower temperatures at high altitudes in the Andes, coffee produced in Colombia is of good quality. However, coffee sales in Colombia have been low, with per capita consumption lower than that of the United States and only one of Scandinavia.
