Craft Caf é, designed by French duo Pool, caters to the needs of freelancers and combines cafes with office space, setting off a new wave of co-working in cafes in Paris.

Black, white and wood are the basic colors in the store, and the color considerations naturally integrate the two functions of office and coffee.

The St. Martin Canal in Paris is filled with all kinds of idle people: freelance writers, artists, self-employed and so on. They wander around the corners of the city during the day, carrying a laptop with them; they can work in partnership with strangers without being disturbed; they don't need a fixed office space. Plugs and coffee are their colleagues.

These freelancers are actually like craftsmen in the electronic age, except that their work is done by tapping the keyboard. The cafe we are going to introduce is born for such a group of people. The concept advocated by the store is "co-working", which provides freelancers with a place to enjoy coffee at the same time, even if they only order a drink and do not have to worry about being looked down upon by the store all day. So the name of this coffee shop is "Craft Caf é", in which "Craft" means "Craftsmen".

In addition to the office function, it also reflects the perfect realization of the coffee shop's own function from a variety of food and drinks.

Craft Caf é is designed by French duo Pool, a young team founded in 2010. Designers L é a Padovani and S é bastien Kieffer both have backgrounds living in New York and Paris, so their design styles also combine the unique temperament of these two cities. Craft Caf é is inspired by renaissance cafes in Brooklyn, New York, most of which have an old-fashioned sense of fashion and are a gathering place for artists and creative talents. The designer chooses the classic black and white as the theme, the doorway with black walls with white signboards, and the interior part with black and white checkered patterns, which is in tune with the style of the building.

The indoor functional area is clearly separated and the style is simple. The narrow interior space is divided into three parts by different floor tiles: the dining area, the bar and the work area. The place just entering the door is paved with black terrazzo, this kind of stone is easy to clean (the bar countertop is also made of the same kind of stone) and is often found in large dining places or outdoor squares. The store has set up several square tables here, and the top is illuminated by a black chandelier with a simple design, adding a little industrial ambience to this area.

A long desk with an office air.

Then there is the bar area, where the floor is replaced by black-and-white diamond-shaped tiles. Similar floor tiles are often seen in colonial-style Hong Kong-style cafes, but they are used here to interpret a French elegance. It is worth mentioning that the two designers pay great attention to detail: if you look carefully, you will find that the connection between the black terrazzo and the lattice tile is a Z-shaped seam. The design of this small detail separates the seats in the doorway from the natural and beautiful area of the bar.

Further inside, the ground has become a herringbone wood floor, although the material has changed from cold (stone) to warm (wood), but the wood floor is consistent with diamond tiles in splicing mode. This geometric pattern in the shape of "Z" or "V" is widely used in traditional Parisian apartments, which is called "Haussmann" design style in the professional field. This area actually consists of two spaces: a long wooden table shared by many people, and the lounge area with a corner sofa, separated by a black metal grid, and the grid wall can be used to hang office supplies.

The black metal grid wall, which is used as a separate single-use area and lounge area, is also a good place to receive office supplies.

Unlike ordinary cafes, Craft Cafe's furniture is customized. Most of the furniture has some office temperament: the rectangular desk, which can seat up to 12 people, has lamps, sockets and post-it notes in front of each seat, which can be used by multiple guests coming alone without disturbing each other. it can also serve as a conference table for team guests during brainstorming; the high stool in the bar area is specially equipped with a metal handle for guests to procrastinate.

Lounge sofa uses black and white two-color splicing, with the same black-and-white round coffee table, and the chandelier above, like an inverted drum, echoes with the shape of the coffee table. In short, everything is the result of careful design.

Finally, as one of the first cafes in Paris to promote the concept of Co-working, Craft Cafe not only won't drive you away, but also offers free wifi and pen and paper, and even high-level design magazines like Monocle can be lent. On the wall of the store, there are "five reasons why you should come to work here"-1. The coffee here is delicious. You may meet new friends; 3. A relaxed environment is conducive to stimulating creativity; 4. There are free magazines to read; 5. One more reason to leave home.

A simple and beautiful entrance to the store.

In addition to the elaborate special design for office functions, as a cafe, Craft Cafe is also very competent. With all kinds of fragrant coffee drinks and all kinds of snacks from desserts to salads, even if you don't work, it's great to sit in your spare time. For customers, Craft Cafe has only one request: please turn down your computer and cell phone.
