Starbucks will open 60% of new stores in 2013, not involving China
Starbucks, the world's largest coffee chain, is building more takeout lanes, and 60% of the new stores opened in 2013 will have takeout lanes to meet people's demand to order food anytime, anywhere, according to foreign media reports.
In response to an interview with the Daily Business News yesterday (January 30), Starbucks China said that at present, the takeout driveway is mainly in the European and American markets, and the Chinese market has no specific plans for the time being.
According to Starbucks' vision, building more takeout lanes will not only compete with McDonald's, but also focus on the innovative space of the car system, such as the touchscreen control panel in the car will have more functions, such as ordering food. Consumers can order before entering Starbucks, just go to the restaurant to pick up the meal.
Some analysts say that this new way will meet the needs of people to order food anytime and anywhere, and with the full functions of the touch screen control panel inside the car, this is a great opportunity for shops with takeout driveways. Because this not only enables consumers to save time to order meals, but also improves the service efficiency of restaurants.
Gao Jianfeng, managing director of Bogai Consulting, said in an interview with the Daily Economic News that Starbucks was able to open takeout channels in Europe and the United States because of its relatively complete public facilities. McDonald's, KFC and other similar attempts have been made before.
The Starbucks China official told the Daily Business News that in fiscal year 2013, the company expects to open 300 new stores in the Chinese market, "deepening the layout of first-and second-tier cities and expanding into third-and fourth-tier cities."
Not only is there an increase in the speed of opening stores, Starbucks is adding new business categories in the Chinese market and launching products for the Chinese market.
For example, the company added new baking business in the second half of last year and participated in the breakfast market in order to gain new profit points. At the same time, in January this year, the company launched its first products specifically aimed at the Chinese market and with Chinese elements.
Earlier, Wang Jingying, president of Starbucks China, said in an interview that Starbucks will strive to add 800 stores to its existing stores in the next three years (by 2015). Starbucks currently has about 700 stores in mainland China, compared with 11000 in the US, the company's biggest market. According to analysts, if Starbucks opens stores in China as planned, Starbucks expects China to become the company's largest market outside the United States in 2014.
