US: Study finds coffee reduces risk of Alzheimer's
A new study by scientists at the University of South Florida in the United States has found that drinking coffee may reduce the risk of Alzheimer's disease, the Mirror reported. According to their research, caffeine may trigger a chemical reaction in the brain to prevent brain damage from such incurable diseases.
"this study confirms for the first time that coffee may reduce the risk of Alzheimer's disease," the scientists said in a research paper published in the Journal of Alzheimer's Disease. " The walking study found that caffeine may rival the depression of female patients and may reduce the risk of stroke by 25%. At present, the number of people with Alzheimer's disease in the UK has reached 750000, and as the population ages, the number of patients will continue to increase. The cost of treating such diseases exceeds that of stroke, heart disease and cancer.
The study, which lasted for four years, involved 124 people over the age of 65. The study showed that participants who had shown early signs of Alzheimer's had 51% less caffeine in their blood than healthy participants. The researchers believe that caffeine may trigger a chemical reaction in the brain to protect the brain from damage caused by such incurable diseases.
