Jamaican coffee market will diversify
A motion to diversify the coffee market and improve coffee quality has been approved by the Cabinet.
Cabinet member Grant said the world recession had severely affected the dental coffee industry, with three major markets in Japan, the United States and Europe reducing demand for dental coffee, causing coffee prices to fall, forcing the government to borrow 310 million dental dollars through the Export-Import Bank to cope with the crisis.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries will work with the coffee organization to support diversification of the coffee market and develop a coffee master plan to increase the production level of coffee and continue to expand the US, Canada and European markets while exploring China, Korea and other markets.
