Last Updated: 2024/11/03, Drinking moderate amounts of coffee can prevent and delay Alzheimer's disease, according to a long-term follow-up study released by Finnish and Swedish researchers.

Researchers from Kuopio University in Finland and Karolinska Medical College in Sweden have conducted a long-term follow-up survey of more than 1400 Finns since the 1970s. It was found that middle-aged people who drank three to five cups of coffee a day were 65% less likely to develop Alzheimer's disease in old age than those who drank less than two cups of coffee a day and more than five cups of coffee a day.

Some previous studies have confirmed that coffee has a certain preventive effect on Parkinson's disease and some cardiovascular diseases.

Mia Givepelto, head of the research project, said coffee is rich in anti-aging and other neuroprotective ingredients, so drinking coffee in moderation can prevent and delay Alzheimer's disease.

Kivi Perto also pointed out that the results of this study need to be further verified by other studies, which will help to develop new ways to treat Alzheimer's disease.
