Drinking four cups of coffee a day can prevent oral cancer, according to a study in Cancer Epidemiology: biomarkers and Prevention, a journal of the American Association for Cancer Research.

Although doctors believe that drinking coffee should be moderate, because caffeine can increase heart rate and raise blood pressure. But the researchers compared the coffee-drinking habits of about 5000 cancer patients with more than 9000 healthy people and concluded that people who drank coffee regularly every day were about 39 percent less likely to develop oral and pharyngeal cancer than those who did not drink coffee.

It is reported that about 5500 Britons are diagnosed with lip cancer, tongue cancer, tonsil cancer and other oral cancers each year, and about 1800 people die from these cancers each year.
