Vietnam's coffee exports are on the rise.
According to Japanese media reports, the production of Robasta coffee beans used to make instant coffee in Vietnam ranks first in the world, and the export volume is increasing. On the other hand, it also gives rise to problems such as farmers' difficulties in shipping, export companies purchasing foreign-made coffee beans, handling orders and so on. The Vietnam Investment Review, a local economic newspaper, reported the incident.
According to the statistics of Vietnam's Ministry of Agricultural Local Development, the export volume of Robasta coffee beans from January to June 2012 was 1.1 million tons, an increase of 26.5% over the same period last year, and the export value was US $2.3 billion, an increase of 20.4% over the same period last year. However, the export price of coffee beans rose by $21 per tonne as a result of the high domestic prices caused by the decline in inventories in June. To this end, farmers who are dissatisfied with the purchase price of export companies stop shipping, and export companies have to transfer goods from countries such as Indonesia.
With regard to this trend, experts pointed out that it is not only a problem of price, but also a problem of industrial structure. 90% of the coffee producers in Vietnam are small-scale farms, and experts believe that large-scale farms must be formed in order to maintain a stable supply. In addition, there are also claims that by supporting the processing industry, which does not have a prosperous proportion of domestic output, to establish domestic production and processing processes in Vietnam, so that farmers have no worries.
