According to the statistics of the Customs Department of Taiwan's Ministry of Finance, the import of coffee beans in Taiwan has nearly doubled in five years, which translates to 2.17 billion cups of freshly brewed coffee consumed by Taiwanese every year, that is, 94.3 cups per person per year.

Taiwan's working hours are the third longest in the world, and office workers can be seen with a cup of coffee on the road, the China Times reported. According to customs data, the import of coffee beans reached 21700 tons last year. Assuming that each cup of freshly brewed coffee takes 10 grams of coffee powder, this is equivalent to as many as 2.17 billion cups of freshly brewed coffee consumed by Taiwanese every year, with an average of 94.3 cups per person per year. If you add in coffee and other drinks mixed with milk and alcohol, it may be more than that.

Customs statistics show that in the first eight months of this year, coffee beans containing unbaked (raw beans) and roasted (cooked beans) were imported of 15500 tons, compared with 8220 tons imported in the first eight months of the 2008 financial tsunami, with a growth rate of 89% over the same period. The total value of imported products soared from NT $985 million to NT $2.23 billion, a sharp increase of 2.2 times.

Coffee importers point out that although they are all coffee, prices vary greatly due to the influence of bean varieties, production areas, and even market fame. The normal purchase price of coffee beans is about NT $250 per kilogram, but Panamanian geisha coffee, which is popular in the market, has risen to more than NT $2000 per kilogram. Bama's geisha coffee is called a national treasure and is produced at Esmeralda Manor in Panama.

Coffee importers say that Indonesia is currently the largest importer of Mandenin coffee beans in Taiwan, mainly because its fragrant taste is "best suited" to Taiwanese. Panamanian geisha coffee, which has become popular in recent years, is not only full of international coffee cups, but also has a special taste and complex floral fragrance.

Interestingly, in recent years, with the focus on freshly brewed coffee, instant coffee, which was easy to drink in the past, has almost stopped growing. Imports of coffee concentrates, including instant coffee, showed almost zero growth of 5870 tons in the first eight months of this year, compared with 5749 tons in the same period five years ago.
