French police today launched an investigation into a cafe shooting on Christmas Eve in which a 19-year-old man was killed with 15 bullets.
The prosecutor's office said that on the evening of the 24th, three suspects broke into a cafe in the southern city of Marseille and opened fire with Kalashnikov rifles. Investigators could not immediately confirm the motive, but it was clearly a case with a clear target, as the victim was shot 15 times.
Prosecutor Xavier Tahab said the attackers fled before the police arrived and may have kidnapped a customer who was sitting with the victim as a hostage. The 22-year-old cafe owner was taken away by police and returned home after being briefly questioned.
