Yonhap News Agency reported that the latest report of the International Coffee Organization shows that from 2000 to 2012, North Korea imported an average of 19,000 bags of coffee (60 kg/bag) every year, equivalent to 50 grams of coffee raw beans per capita in North Korea, about 7 cups of coffee.

North Korea imported an average of less than 1000 bags of coffee a year between 1990 and 1999, but the number increased significantly after 2000, the report said.

Reported that in recent years, Pyongyang and other big cities in North Korea have opened many fashionable cafes to meet the needs of more and more coffee drinkers, thus promoting coffee consumption. However, the report believes that due to factors such as price and consumption capacity, the development potential of the North Korean coffee market is limited.

The report also pointed out that although North Korea's coffee consumption is not much, China's annual per capita coffee consumption is still lower than North Korea's, at 25 grams of coffee beans, about 3.5 cups of coffee, the lowest among Asian countries. South Korea's annual coffee consumption per capita is about 40 times that of North Korea.
