Coffee bark beetle detected from entry coffee beans at Haicang Port

When the staff of Xiamen Haicang Inspection and Quarantine Bureau inspected a batch of coffee beans from Colombia a few days ago, they found that some coffee beans had boring holes on the top. The coffee beans in the container were sampled and sent to the laboratory of Xiamen Inspection and Quarantine Technology Center to identify them as quarantine pest coffee beetles.

It is reported that the goods, a total of one container, weighed 19.26 tons and were worth 58900 US dollars. The goods were fumigated with 3g/m3 aluminum phosphide at 16-20 ℃ for 72 hours, and the adults and living larvae of coffee fruit bark beetle were still detected, and the carrying rate was about 30 grains per kg.

According to reports, the coffee fruit beetle belongs to the family Coleoptera, which is native to Africa. It harms the fruits and seeds of coffee plants, and even spreads over a long distance with coffee fruits and beans, resulting in a reduction in the yield of this crop. After being harmed by the insect, the yield and quality of coffee beans decreased significantly. In severe cases, the damage rate of mature fruit reached 96%, and the harvest decreased by 73%. Even after disinfestation treatment, because the insect body is left inside the coffee bean, it is not easy to separate, which will reduce the quality of coffee and is listed as a quarantine pest list forbidden to enter China.

In order to prevent the spread of pests, Xiamen Haicang Inspection and Quarantine Bureau has strictly fumigated the above-mentioned entry goods in accordance with the relevant regulations, and fed back the types of epidemic situation carried by the imported goods to relevant foreign enterprises through domestic consignees, urging them to rectify and reform their self-discipline, strengthen the inspection of the effect of coffee bean fumigation treatment, and prevent the introduction of exotic harmful organisms and the spread of the epidemic.
