Can drinking coffee really cause cancer? This pot of coffee is not bad.
The origin of the claim that coffee causes cancer is not groundless. In 1991, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) of the World Health Organization listed coffee as a "possible carcinogen". IARC's study at the time classified coffee and South American herbal tea as class 2B carcinogens, alongside chloroform (commonly known as chloroform) and lead. It is believed that coffee increases the risk of bladder cancer.
But recently, IARC overturned the findings of the 1991 study. They published a new study saying there was "insufficient evidence" that drinking coffee increased the risk of cancer and that coffee was no longer listed as a "possible carcinogen".
IARC formed a professional investigation team of 23 people and examined more than 1000 public literatures related to the carcinogenic possibility of coffee. The report shows that drinking coffee has a strong antioxidant effect and has no carcinogenic effect on the pancreas, breast and prostate. Not only that, drinking coffee may also reduce the risk of endometrial cancer, liver cancer and other cancers.
Although normal-temperature coffee does not increase the risk of cancer, IARC warns that drinking more than 65 "overheated coffee" can increase the risk of esophageal cancer. In fact, not only hot coffee, drinking more than 65 hot tea or other hot drinks will increase the risk of esophageal cancer. The report points out that the results of experiments on mice show that long-term intake of 65-70 hot drinks can cause mice to develop esophageal tumors.
Esophageal cancer is the eighth largest cancer, with a high mortality rate. Most patients with esophageal cancer are located in Asia, America and East Africa, where people like to drink hot drinks. In Europe and the United States, most people like to quote coffee or tea with low temperature.
The human esophagus is very fragile, overheated drinks may burn the throat, and long-term inflammatory stimulation can increase the risk of tumors. Often drink overheated drinks, will lead to different parts of the esophagus to cause cancer, there are two main. One is squamous cell carcinoma, which accounts for about 90% of all cases of esophageal cancer worldwide. One is adenocarcinoma (esophageal submucous or malignant tumor from cardiac gland), accounting for 10%.
This time, the World Health Organization also listed very hot drinks as level 2A (possible carcinogens). High-temperature fried foods and red meat also fall into this category.
Some female residents in northern China like to eat hot dumplings or hot noodles cooked just out of the pot. Residents in the south like to eat Spicy Hot Pot, boiling hot meat and vegetables in a frying pan. There are also residents of some humid places, such as Chaoshan area, people like to drink hot soup, or very hot Kungfu Tea, these are important factors in esophageal cancer.
It is more appropriate to protect the esophagus below 60.
Yang Yue, director of the second department of thoracic surgery at Beijing Cancer University, once talked about the damage to the esophagus caused by drinking hot food. he mentioned that so far, this "scalded" esophageal cancer is among the top five cancer morbidity in China.
Therefore, when eating, it is best not to get too hot. Some scientific experiments have found that under 60, the oral mucosa and even the mucous membrane of esophagus and stomach are protected to a certain extent.
Having said so much, I just want to tell you that in addition to choosing those healthier drinks, you can't ignore the temperature of the drinks. Of course, it is not realistic for us to drink water with a thermometer, a more feasible way is to feel hot mouth do not drink, cool for a few minutes, feel warm, this time is more appropriate.
