The selection of the second Ernesto Illy International Coffee Award Ernesto Italian International Coffee Award has entered its final stage. The award was established by Andrea Illy, the current board chairman of the illycaff è Group, a well-known Italian coffee company. The coffee selected for the finals has been selected by illy quality Control Laboratory. The winner of the award will be named "Sustainable quality" in October.
Illycaff è Group's global sales reached 460 million euros in 2016 (an increase of 18 per cent over 2014), 65 per cent of which was obtained through exports. The birth of the "Sustainable quality" Award
In 2016, the Illy family officially launched the Ernesto Illy International Coffee Award Ernesto Italian International Coffee Award, which will be awarded to coffee growers who have made important contributions to coffee quality and the sustainable development of the industry, because they have made unremitting efforts to provide illycaff è with the highest quality coffee beans, making illycaff è an a leader in the global coffee industry.
Coffee from the Sidamo Hidama region of Ethiopia and produced by the Ahmed Legesse Ahmed Regis family won the first Ernesto Illy International Coffee Award Ernesto Italian International Coffee Award in 2016, winning the title of "Best Coffee in the World".
Adhering to the concept of working with coffee farmers to promote the development of the coffee industry and continue to find and supply the best quality coffee in the world, illycaff è Group held the second Ernesto Illy International Coffee Award Ernesto Italian International Coffee Award in 2017.
A few days ago, the Illycaff è Group announced the finalists, and the coffee growers were assessed by the illy quality Control Laboratory based on the quality of the harvest in 2016 and 2017, they came from nine countries: Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ethiopia, Guatemala, Honduras, India, Nicaragua and Rwanda. Each of the above nine countries of origin can apply for the three most representative coffee varieties to participate in the final competition for the award.
The promotion of coffee culture
In the second stage of the Ernesto Illy International Coffee Award Ernesto Italian International Coffee Award, the international independent judging committee composed of experts will taste the selected coffee one by one, and the winner will be decided by the best of the best. The results of the second phase of the review will be announced by an external jury in New York on October 16, 2017.
The award comes from the Pr ê mio Brasil de Qualidade do Caf é para Espresso Brazilian Coffee quality Award, which was created in 1991 by the late Ernesto Illy, former chairman of the illycaff è Group. Since 2008, the event has been renamed the Brazil Quality Award for Espresso Coffee Ernesto Italian Brazilian Coffee quality Award of the year in tribute to Ernesto Illy. The award has accumulated bonuses of more than $4 million to coffee growers. On the other hand, Andrea Illy, the current chairman of the board of directors of illycaff è, has expanded the scope of the competition to the world, encouraging coffee growers around the world to join the cultivation of sustainable high-quality coffee.
