Local industry said that coffee is the "heart" of Honduras and Honduras's primary export of agricultural products. Total exports are expected to grow by 40% this year, making Honduras the fifth largest coffee exporter in the world.

According to the Honduran Coffee Association (Ihcafe), since 2003, Hongguo's coffee planting area has increased from 350000 mu to 430000 mu this year. But Omar Funez, manager of Ihcafe, points out that what is more important is the increase in capacity, from 9 to 10 metric tons per mu in 2003 to 20 metric tons per mu today.

In its latest market report, the World Coffee Organization (OIC) has listed Honduras as the world's fifth largest coffee exporter, second only to Brazil, Vietnam, Colombia and Indonesia.

According to the report, the decline in Brazilian coffee exports has been able to increase production in Colombia, Ethiopia, Honduras, Indonesia, Peru and Uganda to meet global demand.

As a result, Funes said that if Honduras continues to increase coffee productivity, it is expected to overtake Indonesia to become the world's fourth largest coffee exporter.
