Blue Bottle Coffee, an Oakland-based coffee roaster, announced the first release of California-grown coffee from Frinj Coffee, the new coffee business of Good Land Organics, an experimental fruit and coffee farm.

Jay Ruskey, the founder of GLO, has been an enthusiastic advocate for the feasibility of coffee grown in California, which is made on a farm in the small town of Goleta at the foot of Santa Ynez near Santa Barbara. Ruskey has been working with the University of California, Davis on various coffee-related projects, including the first public genome sequencing of Arabica coffee.

GLO has now set up an independent coffee company, Frinj Coffee, and the farm says it has recruited more than 20 other farms in the area to grow coffee, while Frinj provides technical assistance and processing services.

Blue bottle announced the day before yesterday that the Blue bottle release includes 100g (about 3.52oz) from Frinj's Geisha and Caturra mixed cans, which are sold in individual boxes for $65 plus freight. "this single origin will convince you that California is the future of coffee," Blue Bottle said at the launch.

Frinj Coffee said it had sold all its green or baked products by 2017, but said it would release "a small number of online purchases of baked retail bags" in 2018.

"recently, there are 25 new farms in south-central California, and we expect our total coffee production to grow exponentially," Frinj announced on its website. "Frinj Coffee will introduce these farmers' coffee to the world, showing their every story, land and hard work in their hands."
