The 2018 World baristas Competition (2018 WBC) will be held in Amsterdam in June.

In order to consider the size and time of the competition, the rules of the new competition will be slightly adjusted. The organizing committee of the competition said that the purpose of the adjustment of the rules is to improve the competition experience of the contestants and give them more opportunities to experience the changes and improvements of the new competition.

The adjustment includes the layout of the competition area and related arrangements. The 2018 competition changed the original media-free competition area of 7 meters in diameter to a square area of 7 meters by 7 meters in diameter to encourage more creative forms of platform setting. In addition, the relevant specific rules have also been reinterpreted more accurately and clearly.

Champion baristas from about 60 countries will gather in Amsterdam on June 20-23 to present a wonderful international competition to the audience.

The important adjustments are as follows:

Adjust 1

If the contestants have specific requirements on the evaluation time of the entries, the judges shall decide when to start the evaluation in accordance with the contestants' instructions.

Adjust 2

In addition to 20 minutes of preparation time and 40 minutes of performance time, each contestant will have 20 minutes to clean up.

Adjust 3

In terms of the positioning of the workbench, the additional optional platform has two heights for the contestants to choose from: the high position is about 1 meter and the low position is about 0.75 meters.

Adjust 4

In the 2018 competition, the original media-free competition area with a diameter of 7 meters was changed into a square area of 7 meters by 7 meters. Contestants can set the stage according to their own ideas within a specified period of time.

Adjust 5

The competition was changed from bean mill to EK43 and EK43 (S) of Mahlk ö nig Peak.

Adjust 6

In addition to contestants, volunteers and WBC organizers, a coach and an assistant / translator will be allowed to enter the competition preparation room for the 2018 competition.

Adjust 7

In the 2017 regulation, no additional equipment or devices other than coffee waste boxes are allowed to be brought into the workbench. The 2018 rules allow contestants to use steps or other platform settings according to their individual needs to better operate the espresso machine and demonstrate at the booth.
