Recently, the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and supply approved the import of DuPont insecticide Cyazypyr (active ingredient: bromocyanamide) for emergency control of coffee fruit beetle (Hypothenemus hampei) in Minas Gerais. At the same time, the Ministry stipulates that prevention and control measures can only be taken when the incidence of coffee fruit beetle reaches 3% or more.

Cyazypyr has low toxicity and has been registered in the United States, the European Union, Canada, China and Japan and licensed by the World Health Organization and FAO. DuPont expects Cyazypyr to be registered in Brazil by the end of 2014.

Rodrigo Figueiredo, secretary of plant protection at the Ministry, said such emergency measures are imperative. This approval for the import of DuPont pesticide Cyazypyr may reduce the risk of coffee bark beetles in the next planting season.
