May 19 is the 29th National Day of helping the disabled. On the same day, Starbucks China's first sign language store opened in Guangzhou. In this store, hearing impaired baristas work side by side with ordinary baristas.

Starbucks has more than 3800 stores in China, which is probably the quietest one. Wang Jingying, CEO of Starbucks China, expressed the hope that the store will create more platforms for people with hearing impairment to communicate and express themselves.

Fan Yitao, vice chairman of the China Deaf Association and president of the Guangdong Deaf Association, said that pluralistic integration is the general trend of social development. In this sign language store, hearing impaired baristas and ordinary baristas cooperate with each other to provide services to customers, which is a new attempt to promote the development of barrier-free society.

From the sign language signs on the umbrellas and door frames outside the store, to the sign language signs in the store, to the sign language embroidered aprons of hearing-impaired baristas, the reporter found that the integration of sign language elements and coffee culture can be seen everywhere in the store. Above the bar, the "love" sign language is formed by winding knitting lines, and the sign language-shaped leaves can be found in the coffee branch paintings on the walls of the guest area. In addition, Starbucks partners are also involved in the creation of a large mural in the store, where designers interweave patterns and elements from different coffee producing areas, and every sign language action on the mural is surrounded by coffee beans.

It is reported that at the beginning of the preparation of the sign language store, the Starbucks design team carried out targeted store design and transformation based on the actual needs of the hearing impaired: the store designed a new ordering system, including a handwriting board for communication, a handheld menu board, and a single-sided and double-sided display screen. In order to clearly convey the needs of customers, the drinks and food in the store are marked with special numbers, so that baristas and customers can easily complete their orders without "talking".

In addition, the store will also list a range of exclusive peripherals for cooperation with hearing impaired artists, including notebooks, environmentally friendly bags, mugs and so on.

It is reported that at present, Starbucks China has more than 100 baristas with special needs, including the hearing impaired. In this Starbucks sign language store, all baristas have received rigorous training, and three hearing impaired partners hold store management positions. One of them has joined Starbucks for seven years and is the first Starbucks master of hearing impaired coffee in China.

Starbucks China plans to turn the sign language store into a learning platform for hearing-impaired baristas. Sign language classes and coffee classrooms will be organized and held regularly in the store to enhance understanding and integration between different communities.
