Shakisso Farm
Shakisso Farm is located in Guji district, south of Oromia, one of the largest regions in Ethiopia. The farm, founded by Hailey Gabry, has been producing organic coffee since 2001 and is now certified by the Organic Rainforest Alliance and Fair Trade USA. Haier works closely with local medium-sized coffee growers who specialize in growing this highland forest coffee. Together with Haier, we have worked year after year to improve the quality and quantity of Shakso farms.
Shakisso's farm covers more than 640 hectares and has its own nursery to grow coffee seedlings. More than 300 coffee pickers harvest coffee during harvest season. About 150 of them supply coffee to wet mills separately. At present, there are 12 long-term qualified employees with more than 10 years of practical experience in coffee production, processing, settlement and sales. Shakisso Farm has a lot of gold mines, so the coffee fields are full of holes where people dig for gold. This makes walking among coffee trees dangerous. So the biggest challenge right now is finding employees to maintain the plantation and pick cherries.
