Qianjie-introduction to Laos Coffee

Laos is located to the south of Yunnan, China, and to the left of Vietnam. Historically, they were all colonies of France. The arrival of the French brought war, exquisite and unique French way of life, as well as relatively advanced western civilization. In the Boloven Plateau with beautiful scenery and fertile land, the French found high-quality soil for growing coffee with rigorous and scientific botanical theory. So at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, the seeds of coffee trees were planted on the Basone Mountains of the Borophen Plateau. Since then, the unique natural growth environment of southern Laos has made the quality of Laos coffee the best in Southeast Asia.

Laos coffee is famous for its delicate and complex aroma and rich taste, with citrus fruit and floral aromas and faint chocolate sweetness in the aftertaste. Compared with the coffee with multiple flavors in Southeast Asia, the taste is fresher and milder and longer.

Planting time and varieties of coffee in Laos

Around 1900, French settlers began to grow coffee, mainly Arabica iron pickup and bourbon, on the Brawan plateau in southern Laos.

From 1940 to 1990, under the influence of external environment, such as war, agricultural disasters (mainly frost and leaf rust) and national policy, coffee varieties were gradually replaced by Robota species with stronger disease resistance and higher yield, and there were also a few Liberika species.

After 1990, the Arabica species began to receive renewed attention.

At present, it is still dominated by Arabica production.
